Who we’re looking for

Powertrain Testing’s (PTT) Vision is to deliver a World Class Mobility Evaluation Service through On-Time Delivery of Objective Quality Results and Conclusions.

Reporting to the Manager - Vehicle Testing, the Supervisor - Vehicle Testing is responsible for the management, scheduling, and operation of PTT’s chassis dynamometers and on-road vehicle evaluation. This role ensures that vehicle testing is conducted safely and effectively, and that customers and stakeholders are appropriately engaged. Additionally, the Supervisor works as part of the PTT management team to achieve departmental goals and initiatives and is dedicated to the professional development of team members, emphasizing technical skills and Toyota Way principles.

This position will be supporting second shift (3:00PM-11:30PM).

What you’ll be doing

To deliver Operational Excellence

  • Ensuring that both Test Execution and Data Quality is assured through adherence to test standards and processes such as Safety, Regulatory, Operational, Maintenance; and by ensuring that Technicians understand what is test-critical in advance.
  • Ensuring Timely Delivery of Data/Results through active participation in the Test Planning/Prioritization, Scheduling, Preparation, Execution and Review processes which includes the following: coordination of labor, vehicles & test facilities, problem solving of test issues, and maintenance of accurate test records.
  • Ensuring Resource Usage and Test Costs are understood/managed through test management system data review, labor resource allocation, and OT management.

To deliver New Product Introduction

  • Ensuring existing processes are continually improved through kaizen activities such as Job Safety Analysis, regular post-project reflection, and participation in the Quality Management process.
  • Ensuring new processes and capabilities are developed through technology onboarding, benchmarking, training and X-training of TM’s as well as self-development.

To deliver Customer Intimacy

  • Ensuring transparent and timely communications to all internal customers (e.g., team members, shift leaders and Powertrain Management) and external customers (e.g., Powertrain Engineering Departments, TMC-Japan, EPA, and Suppliers).
  • Regular reporting - preparation/presentation of typical weekly/monthly cadences of operations data.
  • People Development/Role Modelling – through coaching of direct reports and less experienced tea members this position will mentor and develop Safety Mindset, Quality Compliance, Schedule Adherence, Problem Solving, Toyota Way Thinking, Process Ownership, and Fiscal Responsibility.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field AND/OR commensurate work experience.
  • Proven related work experience (e.g., automotive, R&D, etc.).
  • Proven experience in vehicle testing and chassis dyno operations.
  • Demonstrated team or project leadership.
  • Strong understanding of key vehicle control systems such as OBD, EFI, and emissions control.
  • Working knowledge of data acquisition and analysis tools (e.g., chassis dynamometer, MATLAB, Panel 4, etc.).
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools (e.g., Excel, Power Point, Word).
  • Willingness to work overtime as required (average of five hours/week).
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% or as required.

Added bonus if you have

  • Demonstrable expertise with OBD, EFI, and Emissions calibration & testing.
  • Prior expertise with federal/state emissions regulations (CFR).
  • Demonstrable expertise with vehicle drivability evaluation.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead a team effectively.
  • Prior knowledge of Toyota tools for S/W and data acquisition (e.g., Panel 4, TS Writer, GTS+).
  • Prior experience of industry standard Operations Management and Quality Management processes.
  • Prior working relationship with Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC).
  • Toyota Middle Class Driver’s license.
  • Situational Leadership II training.
  • Strong understanding of the Toyota Way principles including problem solving (TBP, QC, etc.).
  • Professional Dealer AND/OR Independent automotive repair experience.
  • ASE certification is nice to have.
