Job Title: Cloud FinOps Data Analyst

Job Description:

At Applied Materials, we rely on insightful data to power our systems and solutions. We’re seeking an experienced cloud data analyst to deliver financial insights on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will have statistical expertise, along with natural curiosity and a creative mind. While mining, interpreting, and cleansing our data, this person will be relied on to ask questions, connect the dots, and uncover hidden opportunities. You will be responsible for assisting in the management and optimization of cloud cost by realizing the data’s full potential. As part of a team of specialists, cloud FinOps data analyst will “slice and dice” the data using various methods and create new visions for the future.

Responsibilities

  • Implement analytical models in production by collaborating with finance, procurement and FinOps teams.
  • Assist in the planning, evaluation and implementation of cloud cost management solutions & supported tools.
  • Serve as lead data strategist to identify and integrate new datasets that can be leveraged through our product capabilities and work closely with the Cloud FinOps team in the development of data products.
  • Ability to work with and support cross-functional teams consuming cloud services to understand issues in spend and opportunities for savings and best practices around consumption of cloud services.
  • Execute analytical experiments to help solve problems across various domains.
  • Identify relevant data sources and sets to mine for client business needs and collect large structured and unstructured datasets and variables.
  • Devise and utilize algorithms and models to mine big-data stores; perform data and error analysis to improve models; clean and validate data for uniformity and accuracy.
  • Analyze data for trends and patterns and interpret data with clear objectives in mind.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Cloud Technology: The candidate will be responsible for staying up-to-date with the latest cloud technology and trends to continuously improve our cloud financial operations
  • Identify Risks and Mitigation Strategies: The Cloud FinOps Data Analyst will proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize financial impact.

Required Skills and Qualification

  • Understand the basics of how cloud computing works, know the key services on the cloud providers, including their common use cases, and have a basic understanding of billing and pricing models.
  • Have a base level of knowledge of at least one of the public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • CSP’s API callouts & interface them with cloud cost management tools
  • Programming Skills – knowledge of statistical programming languages like R, Python, and database query languages like SQL, Hive is desirable. Familiarity with Scala, Java, or C++ is an added advantage.
  • Key Responsibilities: Analyze complex, multi-cloud cost and performance datasets to facilitate cost and rate optimization.
  • Data Processing - Strong understanding and hands-on knowledge of advanced Tableau, PowerBI, WebMethods (middleware), Hadoop functions and ETL tools (Tableau Prep, Azure Data Factory)
  • Working experience in CI/CD pipeline (GitHub, CoPilot, BitBucket, Jenkins) and application management & deployment
  • Data Wrangling – proficiency in handling imperfections in data
  • Good knowledge and understanding in AI tools
  • Excellent Communication Skills to describe findings to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Analytical mind and ready to drive the technical discussions with limited supervision.
  • Proven Experience as Data Analyst

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field is preferred.
  • 7+ years of Data Analyst with 2+ years of cloud computing experience is preferred.
  • Professional certifications (Azure/AWS Fundamentals, FinOps Certified Practitioner preferred)
  • Any working experience on cloud cost management tools and chargeback process
  • 1-3 years of FinOps Cloud Operation experience

U.S. Salary Range:

$140,000.00 - $192,500.00

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
