Description of Work
The Schachtman UNL Root and Soil Microbiome Lab focus is on soil microbe interactions with plant roots. Our long term goal is to optimize root microbes for agriculture. Responsibilities include: making DNA libraries, conducting experiments with PCR, extracting DNA, quantifying DNA, ordering for the lab, ensuring that all instruments in the laboratory such as the MillQ water system and other small and large instruments are clean and working properly. Communicate with lab members about their needs and keep inventories of supplies full stocked. Do the ordering of supplies for the lab. Maintain and day-to-day management of laboratory in consultation with Dr. Schachtman. Train students and technicians in molecular techniques. Coordinate lab safety and the yearly lab inspections.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Biology and 1 year of laboratory experience. Strong experience with molecular biology and ordering supplies. Demonstrated ability to interact with members of the laboratory and scientific suppliers. Knowledge of the key factors to include in laboratory notebooks.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Molecular biology methods.
