Job Description

NineStar Connect is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Design Technician to join our Engineering team. This position supports the Vice President of Engineering in planning and designing electric infrastructure to meet current and future system needs. The Design Technician will be responsible for staking overhead and underground lines, preparing construction documentation, working directly with members, and supporting field operations. This is a bargaining unit position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stake overhead and underground electric lines according to RUS specifications.
  • Prepare accurate staking sheets for construction crews and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with members on new or upgraded electric services and gather easements.
  • Determine service load requirements and equipment locations.
  • Coordinate right-of-way clearing and relocation efforts for new construction.
  • Submit data for billing related to line movements or extensions.
  • Lead field investigations and provide technical direction to associates.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and company standards.
  • Participate in training and safety meetings, and support cross-departmental efforts.

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent is required to assume these duties and tasks. Completion of an accredited four (4) year apprentice lineman course required. Staking Certification or Associates Degree in Applied Science preferred.
  • Practical application of skills for a minimum of five (5) years in a utility or related type of organization is required. Special training in this area may be considered in lieu of a portion of the experience/education requirement.
  • Thorough understanding of RUS Specifications, National Electric Safety Code, and National Electrical Code.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, field-based environment.

Physical & Working Conditions:

  • Regular outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and safely operate in field environments.
  • Use of phone, computer, and written communication systems.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and meet residency requirements (within NSC electric service territory or 15 miles radius from 2243 E Main St. Greenfield, IN 46140).
  • May be required to work outside normal business hours and be on call as needed.
