About the team

1 PATOE’s Vision | PATOE technology, partnerships, data stewardship, and research make Amazon both a strong business and a great place to work. We are the strongest, most sought-after team when embedding evidence-based decisions and technology into the employee journey. PATOE’s superpower is getting the right evidence into the right hands, unleashing the collective ability of Amazonians to make great decisions for our employees and our operations.

PATOE is a wide range of complimentary experts who navigate the complexities of technology, data, insights, and partner teams to remove knowledge blockers and improve decision making. We are excited every day to help customers plan, react, and inspect the things that matter to them while continually maturing what it means to do people analytics and technology for Earth’s Best Employer.

2 PATOE’s Mission Statement | PATOE powers Amazon by maximizing the impact PXT technology, data, and insights have on the operations business.

3 Tenets (unless you know better ones):

a. We know when to own and when to broker. Systems of record, business processes, goals, and projects live in many places and are owned by many teams. PATOE understands how products, processes, and data are the direct functions of the organizational ecosystem and knows when to own work and when to rely on partners. We constantly calibrate and negotiate these boundaries.

b. PATOE knows its customers by knowing the business. Obsessing over customers is Amazonian, and a critical way we do this is by obsessing over business priorities and business outcomes. PATOE understands how Operations, Finance, and PXT talk about operational, financial, and people results and works backwards from these to negotiate and prioritize its own work.

c. We continuously calibrate the tension between scope, speed, and spend. As any factor gets (less scope, more time, more money/headcount) prioritization gets easier, but the reality is all three have limits. We articulate tradeoffs well and make high judgment decisions on behalf of our customers and their business priorities.

d. We deliver diverse value propositions for technology and data. Technology, data, and research provide value in different ways to different users. PATOE helps its customers articulate their nuanced needs so it can provide the right tools and/or evidence at the right speed to move the business forward.

e. PATOE work serves all levels of technical skillset. PXT is still learning how to use HR data well and non-PXT teams are still learning where these data and technology add value alongside the rest of their business-critical metrics. Information is most powerful when democratized, so PATOE focuses on making products, processes, skills, data, and tools accessible to everyone.

f. PATOE protects time to create indirect value. PATOE supports many operational needs and therefore must vigilantly protect time to work on incremental and disruptive innovation. Without this, both efficiency and quality will cease to improve.

4 PATOE Objectives anchor its prioritization to aspirations. We work every day toward the following:

a. Build the most reliable, easiest to navigate PXT reporting suite across Amazon

b. Create a sustainable, reliable, and equitable technology experience that improves the employee experience

c. Enable early, consistent, and robust measurement strategies for every significant PXT product, program, and policy

d. Build the smartest, most agile data ecosystem PXT has ever seen

e. Create actionable insights about things that matter to the business
