Position Summary
The Business Unit Controller is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and Zimmer Biomet policies. This role plays a key part in supporting internal controls, managing audit activities, and partnering cross-functionally to drive process improvements, compliance, and efficiency across the organization.
How You'll Create Impact
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
- Manage the accounting team, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger accountants including accounting teams.
- Ensure compliance with SOX/internal control requirements and corporate accounting policies.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, preparing schedules and responding to audit inquiries.
- Develop and maintain accounting procedures to improve efficiency and standardization.
- Collaborate with FP&A, Tax, and other finance and business partners to ensure alignment on financial reporting and operational outcomes.
- Provide technical accounting guidance and support on complex transactions and new business initiatives.
- Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals; foster a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
- Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements; implement updates accordingly.
- Provide oversight of transition of certain activities to Global Business Services shared service centers and align processes to Zimmer Biomet standard.
- Support special projects, including acquisition integration, system implementations, and process transformation initiatives.
- Adherence to Zimmer Biomet’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
What Makes You Stand Out
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks (e.g. COSO, SOX).
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP preferred), financial reporting tools, and Excel.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving mindset.
- Effective communicator able to translate complex accounting matters to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or equivalent certification strongly preferred
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory/management role.
- Experience in a global, publicly traded company and working with auditors preferred.
- Prior experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing industry a plus
Travel and Onsite Office Expectations
- Up to 10% of overnight travel may be required.
- This is a hybrid position with 2-3 days per week expected to be onsite at our Englewood, CO location
