What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $102,000 - $132,000/year. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Friday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s).

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work at least three (3) days in the office at Denver International Airport. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

Denver International Airport (DEN) is hiring a Project Manager of Airside Design and Construction to join the Airside Engineering team of DEN’s Design, Engineering and Construction (DEC) Division. DEC is the primary Capital Project delivery arm for design and construction projects at DEN. The Airside Engineering team is responsible for implementing runway, taxiway, gate apron, Deicing Industrial Waste (DIW), airfield electrical, and stormwater/drainage projects within the Air Operations Area (AOA) at DEN.

Specifically, as the Project Manager, you will:

  • Perform project management work by managing and coordinating capital improvement projects for Denver International Airport including project coordination with city departments, utilities, airlines, concessions, airport tenants and/or other stakeholders.
  • Confer with management in order to maintain established project plans and goals, scope of work, and project work plans including time frames, funding limitations, contract costs, risk factors, and allotment of available resources to various phases of a project.
  • Review projects for code and standards compliance, monitor the progress and quality of a project, and resolve problems and project barriers by identifying strategies and approaches to overcome barriers.
  • Track schedules, work plans, and cost estimates/projections and monitor projects for conformance to approved plans and contract specifications.
  • Assist or participate in preparing pre-bid and proposal materials defining scope of work and related information necessary for request for qualifications (RFQ), request for proposals (RFP) and Issued for Bid (IFB) solicitations, responding to questions concerning the project and/or contract(s).
  • Prepare and communicate project update status reports for key stakeholders and provides updates on project activities and information on risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor the budget for project planning, design, regulatory, and/or construction phases and ensure project deliverables stay on-time, on-target, and on-budget.
  • Interact with utility companies, city agencies/departments, and other governmental agencies to obtain necessary permits and clearances and to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Matrix manage and/or coordinate the work of consultants and/or related personnel who have been assigned responsibility for various projects and/or portions of a project and define and manage the overall change control processes and quality assurance aspects of the project to ensure project success.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Airfield experience.
  • Construction management experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Colorado (preferred not required).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (preferred not required).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to perform in a collaborative team environment.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of professional project management experience in the related occupational group including coordinating, administering, and monitoring projects.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

Additional Information

FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.

Snow/Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
