Job Overview & Essential Functions
Transportation Resources, LLC is a wholesale parts distributor and a division of Murphy-Hoffman Company, LLC. As TRI continues to grow, we have an opening for a Product Manager (TRI). The Product Manager (TRI) is responsible for creating and maintaining a portfolio of Transportation Resources, Inc. (TRI) key product lines to ensure the company has current competitive alternatives for products and services in the heavy-duty truck marketplace.
- Serves as the primary contact (with direction and involvement of the Business Development Manager/VP of Operations-Parts) for vendors and suppliers seeking to market new and existing products and services through the TRI distribution network.
- Continuously evaluates opportunities to lower acquisition costs of parts while keeping consistent quality in products/services we source and to keep the company competitive with market conditions.
- Identifies expansion opportunities with current programs/sources and relationships with suppliers on key product lines so as to provide competitive alternatives. Examples include key lines with frequent market fluctuation like oil, batteries, Freon, antifreeze, etc.
- Maintains keeping current profiles on key parts pricing indices (i.e., petroleum and petroleum products, metals and other raw materials) and how they might impact pricing on key product lines.
- Negotiates contracts with suppliers and oversees that deliverables are met and maintained per the agreement. Examples of deliverables: pricing, pricing updates, packaging requirements, rebate management, warranty etc.
- Travels to supplier locations to conduct on–site visits and/or evaluations, as directed by Business Development Manager, of supplier offices, production plants and distribution centers.
- Responsible for assisting the inventory planners in communications with vendors to help maximize efficiency and accuracy while minimizing costs. (freight minimums, truckloads etc.).
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Five plus years of work experience in inventory, purchasing or product forecasting.
- Requires excellent computer skills: proficient in Excel and Word. AS400 experience a plus.
- Requires excellent interpersonal skills and written communication skills.
- Must have exceptional organizational skills
- Must be highly analytical.
- Heavy duty truck or automotive parts and product knowledge experience preferred.
- Requires strong skills in negotiation.
- Moderate travel required – 25-50%.
