We are looking for a Procurement Technical Manager to join our Coatings team in Southfield, MI to handle our Raw Materials category. This role will involve extensive project management and interaction with a variety of internal and external customers.

BASF’s Coatings division is a global expert in the development, production and marketing of innovative and sustainable automotive OEM and refinish coatings as well as applied surface treatments for metal, plastic and glass substrates in a wide range of industries. Procurement Technical Managers (PTM) play a crucial role in approving materials, services, and equipment sourcing, effectively bridging the gap between internal approvals and our suppliers.

As PTM for raw materials, you will be capable to conduct technical evaluations between our requirements and suppliers offers, challenging to both to achieve the best technical offer. Lead projects for the introduction of new items, such as materials, resins, solvents and other chemicals, fostering a competitive environment for negotiators and general buyers.

What you'll do:

  • Partnering directly with suppliers to co-create cost-effective technical improvements in design, materials, and processes.
  • Staying ahead of industry trends and represent the company at trade shows and innovation events, focusing on find sustainable solutions.
  • Identifying and mitigating risks associated with procurement activities, including assessing supplier risks and developing contingency plans.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues, following up on Non-Conformance Materials (NCMs), and managing change (MOC) initiatives.
  • Collaborating with the entire procurement team and internal partners on projects with value chain know-how.

What you bring:

  • Have a heart for technical requirements combined with project management skills.
  • Bachelor's in relevant field and at least 4 years applicable professional experience required.
  • Able to manage multiple projects at the same time. Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Possess solid knowledge in sourcing markets related to packaging and indirect categories or similar experiences.
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Can adapt quickly to changes and make decisions in a high flexibility field.
  • Have strong communication skills in English.
  • Are self-motivated and possess an outstanding team spirit to develop our procurement team into the next level.
  • Have a high intercultural competence.
