This position works out of our Woodridge location in St. Paul, MN in the SH division.

Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life by designing and providing device and management solutions for treating structural heart disease.

As the Product Development Engineer, you'll have the chance to provide technical support within a vibrant, high-performing R&D team that is redefining the treatment of structural heart disease. Under general guidance, the candidate will be responsible for the testing and analysis of tissue-related technologies for current and next generation technologies. What You’ll Work On

  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments related to tissue valve technologies
  • Generate technical reports and presentations to document work, illustrate concepts, and demonstrate progress.
  • Manage multiple research projects across the breadth of the tissue manufacturing process.
  • Support other valve and system development activities as needed to achieve project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with other Subject Matter Experts to enhance existing test methods and implement new ones.
  • Actively engage and collaborate with cross-functional product development teams.
  • Support sustaining and process engineering efforts during manufacturing improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in tissue, valve, and Structural Heart related fields.
  • Conceptualize new devices, techniques, and technologies using material knowledge.
  • Grow the company’s IP & patent portfolio through strategic internal research.
  • Other duties as reasonably assigned by the management team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree (± 16 years) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or related engineering field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum three years experience progressively more responsible design and expertise.
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
  • Broad technical knowledge; expertise in one or more relevant specialties.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization. Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing/executing experiments, analyzing results, and generating next steps.
  • Understanding of basic statistical methods and techniques.
  • Experience using mechanical testing equipment for soft materials
  • Knowledge of tissue composition and processing methods.
  • Familiarity with ISO and ASTM standards related to tissue heart valves (e.g. ISO5840, ISO22442, ISO10993).
  • Experience with tissue processing methodologies related to tissue heart valves (e.g. tissue selection, fixation, and sterilization).
  • Experience in tissue engineering, biomaterials, and/or immunohistochemistry is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks to meet project deadlines, take initiative, and work independently (as needed).
  • Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional or multi-disciplinary product development team.
  • A flexible mindset, self-motivation, strong inclination to learn, ability to work semi-autonomously and develop effective problem-solving strategies.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and follow-up skills.
  • Attention to detail, effective problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of engineering software (e.g. Solidworks, Microsoft Office, Minitab, Matlab, Mimics, etc.)

The base pay for this position is

$60,000.00 – $120,000.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
