Caterpillar Inc. seeks Manager Engineering at its facility located at 875 W Cushing St., Tucson, AZ 85745. Manage engineering for design and development of technologies, components, systems, products, or services. Manage staffing, development, and performance management programs for engineering teams. Motivate and develop project and team leaders. Provide specialized engineering technical support and consulting services to various areas including autonomous vehicles and retrofit. Manage high-impact, short and long duration engineering initiatives and projects. Ensure achievement of engineering plans and product quality. Maintain product release plans and material plans; drive programs to on-time completion within budget. Contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning. Monitor work progress against plans to meet objectives. Report variances and make corrections. Use approaches, tools, techniques to recognize, anticipate, and resolve organizational, operational or process problems. Develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. Advise on the assessment and provision of technical solutions. Engage subject matter resources to resolve technical issues. Mentor others to enhance their technical competence and achieve effective technical solutions. Coach others to promote, define, analyze, and provide superior technical solutions to business problems. Assume accountability for personal technical performance and holds others responsible for theirs. Remain aware of shifting market priorities and respond to internal and external customer needs to add value. Focus product and service features and functions on critical success factors. Develop consistent methods for maintaining customer responsiveness. Deliver customer value within parameters of profitability and other targets. Escalate systemic problems that could affect customer satisfaction. Use knowledge of processes involved in managing people and lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts. Assess required time and resources needed to accomplish tasks and delegate work accordingly. Explain how team work contributes to organizational success. Create a shared vision. Review progress and performance of employees; address bottlenecks or concerns impeding employee growth. Use channels such as meetings, e-mails, newsletters to communicate important messages. Work with employees to set and define performance standards and career development goals. Use project management strategies and tactics; plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. Utilize preferred tools, techniques and methods to estimate project cost and time. Plan, estimate, staff, organize and monitor significant projects. Identify risks and vulnerabilities; create contingency plans. Conduct regular and ad-hoc project reviews with project team, sponsors, and clients. Maintain open communication among project participants and interested parties. Communicate reporting requirements; create monitoring and control mechanisms. Develop organizational standards and processes to maximize product service efficiency and effectiveness. Create and introduce new techniques to expedite or simplify the development process. Supervise the management of multiple and diverse products or services. Develop proof-of-concept exercises to prove or disprove validity of proposed products. Advise on appropriate solutions to complex product design and development problems. Design working prototypes of proposed products or services. REQS: This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Management and 10 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or related occupation. In the alternative the employer will also accept a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Management and 5 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Data analytics tools including: Power BI, Tableau, and Minitab; (2) Design and validation tools and processes including: Creo, Team Center Visualization, and VizMokup; (3) SAP experience with ordering; and (4) Heavy industrial engine and machine manufacturing experience, for new and current product design, executing cost improvement projects, Process FMEAs, Safety FMEAs. Telecommuting: 2 days/week.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,838.00 – $165,840.00
