As a Storage and Data Protection Engineer you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise storage and data protection solutions across on-premises and cloud environments. Your work will ensure the integrity, availability, and security of Valero’s critical data assets.

  • Design, implement, and manage enterprise storage systems (SAN, NAS, object storage) to meet performance and capacity requirements.
  • Develop, automate, and maintain backup, recovery, replication, archiving, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents related to storage and data protection.
  • Ensure compliance with data retention and disaster recovery policies.
  • Support audits, documentation, and risk assessments related to data protection.
  • Contribute to long-term planning for scalable, secure, and high-performing storage and data protection.
  • Ensure optimal performance, reliability, and availability of storage systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including infrastructure, application development, and security, to ensure storage infrastructure meets organizational needs.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of experience with enterprise storage systems or backup/recovery solutions.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location, required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related field.
  • Experience with system administration (Windows, Linux/Unix).
  • PowerShell scripting experience.
  • VMware vSphere or other hypervisor experience.
  • Modern storage platforms (e.g. NetApp, Pure, Hitachi).
  • Modern data protection platforms (e.g., Rubrik, Cohesity, Veeam, Commvault) experience.
  • Strong knowledge of storage protocols (Fibre-Channel, NFS, SMB/CIFS, S3, iSCSI).
  • Experience with storage management tools and monitoring systems.
