$127,600.00 - $212,500.00

Why this job matters:

Design, develop and execute a long-range technology architectural roadmap that anticipates future business needs and maximizes long-term technology investments.

Identify infrastructure, tools, standards, governance and best practices to effectively operate in a cloud environment.

Manage daily operations of enterprise architecture staff; ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

Manage all phases of system design, development and integration to ensure that design solutions meet business needs and align with enterprise standards.

Build and maintain an internal knowledge set on the capabilities of systems, their interdependencies, and underlying design.

Ensure current state architecture and design documentation is up to date and reflective of where future investments may be required.

What you'll do:

  • Deliver research, strategic development, and implementation of target cloud architecture for data, applications, businesses and technologies.
  • Provide appropriate thought leadership and creative insights to contribute recommendations and implementation strategies for new technologies.
  • Serve as a business liaison to create effective partnerships between functional business areas and technology.
  • Improve efficiency and effectiveness of enterprise architecture team by providing technical and design leadership, mentoring team members, establishing and influencing best practices through effective designs, decisions, and tools.
  • Collaborate and work closely with multiple departments consisting of internal business and technical areas, external Information Technology (IT) subcontractors, and system vendors to identify, select, and implement technology solutions that will meet business needs. Participate in formal and informal program reviews. Facilitate technical decisions to conclusion.
  • Work with and manage team resources to lead the development of architecture documents and artifacts in line with architecture standards, guidelines, and cloud best practices. Artifacts and documents including but not limited to: solutions scoping, options analysis, logical and physical architecture diagrams, AS IS and TO BE architecture models of existing systems and IT Capability Roadmaps.
  • Oversee detailed design work of external vendors; support IT governance to ensure adherence to company principles and enterprise IT and cloud strategy.
  • Provide on-going assessments of organization technology and manage accuracy of the enterprise application catalog. Lead the implementation of architecture and enabling technologies strategy for the cloud and technology domain. Drive alignment on adoption of architecture strategy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five or more years of experience in e-business architecture design and support
  • Five or more years of experience of increasing levels of responsibility within IT
  • Experience with best practice software development, integration, and configuration management methodologies and project management office reporting
  • Experience reviewing and selecting technical and application architecture solutions
  • Three to five years management experience or experience leading a team
  • Working knowledge of TOGAF and UML
  • Ability to set and maintain quality standards
  • Ability to coach and motivate to maximize performance
  • Ability to effectively communicate goals and business objectives to employees
  • Strong and effective decision-making skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of products (i.e., Word, Excel, PPT, etc.)
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to effectively delegate work and manage project tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to convey complex or technical information in an effective manner

  • Supervisory experience or experience leading a team
  • Master's degree in technical discipline such as Information Systems Management, Systems Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Healthcare, insurance, or government agencies experience
  • Experience with multiple platforms, operating systems, RDBMS, and integrated development environments
  • Experience with relational data modeling, database design, and portal applications
  • Experience with networking and cloud technologies, for example security, load balancing, network routing protocols

Location:

BCBSRI is headquartered in downtown Providence, conveniently located near the train station and bus terminal. We actively support associate well-being and work/life balance and offer the following schedules, based on role:

  • In-office: onsite 5 days per week
  • Hybrid: onsite 2-4 days per week
  • Remote: onsite 0-1 days per week. Permitted to reside in the following states, pending approval from the Human Resources Department: Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia
