Position Summary

The Director of Fleet Operations is a strategic leader responsible for the overall vision, direction, and execution of IES Residential’s fleet program. This role manages the development of policies, systems, and partnerships to ensure the efficient, safe, and cost-effective deployment and maintenance of all company-owned and leased vehicles and equipment. The Director will lead cross-functional initiatives with Operations, Safety, and Finance to align fleet strategy with company growth and job site demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Planning:
    • Develop and execute long-term fleet strategies aligned with operational and financial goals across all IES Residential divisions.
    • Set and monitor performance metrics, safety benchmarks, and operational KPIs for fleet utilization, uptime, and cost control.
  • Team Oversight & Development:
    • Lead and mentor a high-performing team including Sr. Fleet Managers, Fleet Coordinators, and Administrative Staff across regions.
    • Implement training programs to ensure consistent fleet practices and compliance at all levels.
  • Fleet Lifecycle Management:
    • Direct the acquisition, leasing, allocation, maintenance, and disposal of fleet assets.
    • Evaluate and implement fleet technology platforms (e.g., telematics, maintenance scheduling, fuel management) to support scalability.
  • Compliance & Risk Mitigation:
    • Ensure full compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and local regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions.
    • Lead initiatives to mitigate operational risks including accident prevention, vehicle safety programs, and driver accountability.
  • Vendor and Budget Management:
    • Negotiate and manage contracts with leasing companies, dealerships, maintenance providers, and fuel suppliers.
    • Oversee the annual fleet budget and capital planning process, identifying cost-saving and efficiency opportunities.
  • Sustainability & Innovation:
    • Champion environmentally responsible practices including exploring hybrid/electric fleet adoption.
    • Stay current with market trends, regulatory shifts, and emerging fleet technologies to maintain a competitive edge.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive fleet management experience, with at least 4 years in a leadership or multi-site role.
  • Deep knowledge of fleet operations within construction, electrical contracting, or utility industries.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state fleet compliance regulations (DOT/FMCSA).
  • Demonstrated success in implementing strategic initiatives and managing multi-million-dollar budgets.
  • Proficient with fleet management software, data analytics, and performance reporting tools.
