The Director, Network Strategy - New Modalities Drug Substance & Drug Product is responsible for developing and maintaining portfolio and network level strategies, associated investment approvals, and ensuring timely decisions on portfolio and network needs for the biotherapeutic platform. Collaboration with GCSO on portfolio and market insights, with R&D on pipeline and technology insights, and lead product portfolio and network process capabilities for product portfolio and network team.

This role is responsible for supporting product and portfolio network sourcing council reviews for products, portfolios, and network strategies. Supports VCLS in product strategy roadmap definition for new modalities. Key outcomes for this role are delivering a prescriptive unified network strategy, cross-product strategies for portfolios, prioritization within network and portfolio, investment roadmap, and data-based portfolio and network decisions made on time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for new modalities drug substance and drug product biotherapeutic product portfolio and network strategy
  • Develop and maintain portfolio & network level strategy & associated investment approvals and ensuring timely decisions on portfolio and network level strategies for new modalities across DS & DP
  • Lead the development and deployment of network strategies across the end-to-end biotherapeutic DS &DP supply chain for new modalities to meet the needs of the current product portfolio as well as the emerging pipeline. This will include investments in new capacities and capabilities, rationalization of legacy assets and identification of leveraging/partnering opportunities to ensure an agile, resilient, and cost-effective network.
  • Create coherent strategy and prioritization across products with similar profiles (technology, process, and capabilities, etc.)
  • Create and communicate meaningful network guidance across the biotherapeutic platform in partnership with cross functional heads. This includes gaining leadership alignment and endorsement of core/non-core capabilities, network roadmaps, product portfolio and site missions.
  • Maintain strong connections to the upstream R&D (Discovery, Product Development and Supply) as well as the downstream Commercial organization to ensure solutions incorporate broad and diverse insights while ensuring end-to-end optimization.
  • Partner with Value Chain Management to generate siting options for new and existing products aligned to overarching network strategy.
  • Partner with Value Chain Management to gain insights on new modalities by therapeutical area to identify trends, opportunities and competitive landscape.
  • Build and maintain external connections relevant to identifying marketplace and industry trends in external network.
  • Drive analysis and decisions required from a planned or unplanned ‘trigger event’ (e.g., uptick in demand, capacity gap, etc.).
  • Trigger portfolio and network assessments where capacity and capability gaps exist.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in science, Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in the above subject areas or an MBA is preferred.
  • biotherapeutic drug substance & drug product experience preferred
  • A minimum of ten (10) years combined experience relevant to supply chain.

  • Proven experience in managing against a budget and making decisions that draw upon effective business and financial acumen, including making financial assessments of strategic options and providing recommendations.
  • Skills demonstrated in influencing across the matrix and negotiating in situations without positional authority.
  • Experience working within different cultures, as well as handling diverse and complex cultural and market-specific issues, such as labor laws, healthcare regulatory requirements, tax law and logistics
  • Detail and solution oriented with ability to work within broad guidelines and exercise considerable initiative, judgment, and decisiveness.

Preferred:

  • Experience working across multiple business segments, functions and/or regions.
