Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that IU campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable while supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. Capital Projects (formerly named the University Architect's Office) provides architectural, interior design, construction management, engineering, and quality assurance and safety services for capital projects on all Indiana University campuses.
Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Architectural design/CAD and BIM Drafting.
- Coordination with IU Capital Projects staff in engineering, interior design, landscape architecture, architecture, space information, construction management and facility operations.
- Travels to buildings and campuses of assigned project work to view, analyze, and measure rooms/elements of the subject structure.
- Maintenance and development of CAD and BIM standards used within IU Capital Projects.
- Creates construction costs' estimates.
General Responsibilities
- Interfaces with users and transfers stated user needs into appropriate designs in coordination with staff.
- Analyzes available space, office equipment and layout, and traffic flow; prepares drawings and establishes specifications within budget limits, adhering to pertinent regulations and standard building codes.
- Develops itemized project proposals, including cost estimates and budget recommendations, submitting to users for approval; develops documents (drawings and specifications) necessary to obtain competitive bids as needed.
- Coordinates project implementation, engaging staff and/or contractors/vendors as needed.
- Establishes and maintains contacts with vendors and other manufacturing personnel to evaluate products, to ensure awareness of trends in the design field, and to develop competitive bid specifications.
- Maintains design library and serves as an informational resource for customers and staff.

EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Preferred
- Associate or bachelor's degree in design or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 4 years in design or related field
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Preferred
- Possesses a valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Date of Hire

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This role occasionally requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$57,699 annually.
