Job Description

The specialist will assist with design and implantation of sports performance/injury prevention programs, develop relationships in the community to market the Sports Physical Therapy department, provide training for transitional therapy program, and various clinical support and administrative duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Injury Prevention/Sports Performance Programs:
  • Develop relationships in the community with Athletic Directors and Coaches to initiate or to continue programs. Assist in program design specific to each team’s wants and needs. Assist in pre and post testing of athletes.
  • Lead teams through sessions. Lead education of athletes, parents and coaches as it relates to the program. Supervision of students/intern assisting with sessions
  • Developing Community Relationships:
  • Create opportunities for community education to make community aware of programs offered. Develop and maintain relationships with current and future referral sources. Providing information about services at meetings, conferences, trade shows.
  • Transitional Therapy:
  • Collaborate with Physical Therapist on plan to best progress patient following discharge from Physical Therapy. Create sport specific plans for athletes trying to return to prior level. Provide one on one or group training sessions.
  • Clinical support:
  • Rooming patients; greeting patients, bringing them to location of therapy, notifying therapist of their arrival. Provide physical assistance for treatment sessions as directed by therapist. The rehabilitation aide does not carry out clinical procedures. Set up and take down treatment area as requested by therapists to assist with efficient and effective treatment session. (i.e retrieve appropriate equipment such as wheelchairs, walking device, testing supplies and other various treatment equipment)
  • Department support:
  • Environmental safety and cleanliness: perform environmental safety rounds and notifies manager of results, cleans therapy equipment as outlined in hospital policies/procedures. Organize treatment and patient waiting areas. Monitor and maintain supply stocking and notify manager when items need to replenish: (i.e. linen, testing supplies, crutches and other various therapy supplies). Assist with ordering and stocks items upon receipt.
  • Perform administrative duties as needed. (ie. Check patients in and out, copy, fax documents, answer phones, prepare/send records to medical records and other administrative duties as assigned). Perform special projects as necessary and requested by managerial team.
  • Other duties:
  • Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintains them over time. Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential. Demonstrates a respect for the patient’s bill of rights.
  • Ability to travel to other locations may be required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the population specific differences and needs of patients as appropriate to role, from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers. Demonstrate an awareness of safety needs and basic knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, risk management, and environment of care policies.
  • Asks questions, clarifications and assistance when needed and in situations that fall outside of the scope of their job.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Student supervision for sports performance/injury prevention programs.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Education Required: Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or equivalent.

Education and/or Experience Preferred:

  • Experience Preferred: One to two years of relevant experience preferred. Experience with exercise and training athletes preferred.

License and/or Certification Required:

  • NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist, or equivalent within the first six months of employment
  • CPR certification required to be obtained within six months of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • KNOWLEDGE OF: Anatomy, physiology and kinesiology, advanced exercise prescription, infection control procedures, universal precautions, basic medical terminology
  • SKILLS: Presentation skills, instruct group classes, good verbal and written communication, listening, teamwork, organization, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and physical stamina.
  • ABILITY TO: work well under time constraints, travel to different locations
