Description

The Video Editor for the Office of Strategic Communication and Civic Engagement is responsible for producing and editing high-quality video content that effectively communicates the city’s initiatives, announcements, and events to the public. This role requires a strong understanding of video editing for video and social media platforms, ensuring that content is engaging, accessible, and aligned with the city's communication strategies. The Video Editor will work closely with the communications team to create videos that resonate with diverse audiences across multiple channels.

Duties include but are not limited to

TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.

  • Video Editing: Edit raw footage from press conferences, public events, interviews, and other city-related activities to create compelling videos for social media, the city’s website, and other digital and video platforms.
  • Social Media Content Creation: Tailor video content specifically for social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok), optimizing for different formats, aspect ratios, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Motion Graphics & Animation: Incorporate motion graphics, text overlays, and animations to enhance video content, making it more dynamic and informative.
  • Content Optimization: Ensure that all video content is optimized for different social media platforms, including considerations for length, captions, and mobile viewing.
  • Quality Control: Review and fine-tune video content to ensure high production standards, including color correction, sound mixing, and visual consistency.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple video projects simultaneously, ensuring that deadlines are met, and content is delivered on time and within scope.
  • File Management: Organize and maintain video files, project assets, and editing templates to ensure efficient workflow and easy retrieval of past projects.
  • Trend Awareness: Stay up to date with the latest social media trends, video editing techniques, and platform algorithms to keep content fresh and relevant.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the communications team, including photographers, writers, and graphic designers, to ensure cohesive and consistent content across all channels.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Technical Skills: Proficient in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, and other relevant tools. Experience with social media video formats and best practices is essential.
  • Creativity: Strong creative vision with the ability to translate ideas into engaging video content that captures the audience’s attention.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to produce polished and professional videos that meet high-quality standards.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a team and understand project requirements.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability: Ability to quickly adapt to changing project needs and feedback, with a willingness to learn and implement new techniques.
  • Social Media Savvy: In-depth understanding of social media platforms, including the types of content that perform well and how to optimize videos for each platform.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: Associate degree in Film Production, Multimedia, Communications, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in video editing, with portfolio demonstrating work on social media content.
