The Cooper River site is aligned to the DuPont Diversified Industrials Business and located in Moncks Corner, SC just 30 miles north of beautiful and historic Charleston, SC. The site employs ~30 personnel. The MOLYKOTE® Brand includes a broad range of lubricants technology like Greases, Pastes, Oils and Anti-Friction Coatings for diverse applications in Automotive, Aerospace, and Industrial markets.

The Cooper River site is seeking a highly motivated Site Quality Engineer to establish and drive the site quality management system. This role provides guidance for all business functions at the Cooper River site on the quality assurance process starting from the voice of the customer and in compliance to all required quality system standards (ISO 9001) as well as drives continuous improvement of the efficiency and responsiveness of the quality network, including integrating DuPont functions in complaint resolution so that the customer is responded to in a professional and timely manner.

This role also is accountable for synergistic Cooper River site quality responsibilities withing the MOLYKOTE® unit such as ensuring the site Quality Management System meets all customer, statutory, and regulatory requirements to maintain certification under ISO 9001:2015 including the quality management system, customer satisfaction, quality certifications, quality related aspects of supplier and contract manufacturer relationship, training, quality audits, corrective and preventive action. Works closely with site and business management to drive continuous quality improvement. Ensures that the organization remains consistent with, and in compliance with, automotive and other industry standards and performance levels, while driving a culture of continuous improvement.

This role is also responsible for the integration of and the compliance to the Minimum Automotive Quality Management System Requirements for Sub-Tier Suppliers (MAQMSR), including the essential sections of the IATF16949 automotive standard.

This role reports directly to the Global Quality Manager and functionally to the Cooper River Plant Manager. This role does not have any direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for communicating business strategy regarding quality, setting quality metrics, and establishing a process that enables the manufacturing unit to meet quality goals.
  • Continuous improvement of the efficiency and responsiveness of the quality network and lead development of a quality culture using demonstrated technologies (Lean, Six Sigma methodologies, etc).
  • Accountable for timely and complete resolution of customer complaints, providing leadership and support to each manufacturing site as they conduct the investigations.
  • Support quality activities at contract manufacturing locations locally that support the Cooper River site.
  • Organize and/or provide training and guidance to colleagues at Cooper River site.
  • Serves as leader and change agent for Quality continuous improvement. Accountable for identifying and driving programs and improvement processes that result in a significant reduction in quality complaints.
  • Conduct site internal audits and external supplier audits as required and provide recommendations to each functional and site leader to establish and sustain continuous improvement culture.
  • Represent the Quality function on site leadership teams, with participation in monthly performance discussions with Global Quality Manager.
  • Responsible for the unit’s quality management systems, ensuring alignment with overall site management systems and business management system. This includes updates to the unit’s quality manual, procedures, and ensuring compliance with all applicable standards.
  • Serve as a member of our site staff team to provide input and participate in decision making regarding the direction of the organization from a quality and operations perspective.
  • Conduct 1st party, and coordinate 2nd and 3rd party, quality audits such as ISO, customer audits and implements the corrective action plans.
  • Lead and/or facilitate root cause investigation of internal and external (customer complaints) quality non-conformances and determine appropriate corrective action by using tools such as 5 Why, FMEA’s, Root Cause Analysis, 8D, etc. and ensure actions are effective.
  • Utilize appropriate business protocol (Product Change Management, Test Authorization, Change of Design), to support, develop and implement quality related plant improvements.
  • Identify and performs corrective and preventative actions related to quality management system improvement, customer satisfaction, quality related aspects of supplier, manufacturing, and contract manufacturing.
  • Effectively use Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) to anticipate failure modes, design detections and controls to prevent unplanned events and drive improvement.
  • Perform statistical analysis of property data and assesses the capability to meet customer specifications.
  • Control and disposition of non-standard production using SAP.
  • Coordinate customer complaint responses relating to quality information or issues.
  • Initiate, monitor, and execute quality improvement programs/events and projects, to align with and achieve goals.
  • Monitor raw material and packaging supplier performance.
  • Support or lead manufacturing in maintaining document control such as Standard Practice, Standard Operating Procedures, Check sheets, Tests, etc.
  • Assist/coordinate with Lab Technicians and Technical Resources on lab testing validations and equipment calibrations.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) resource for quality training, coaching, and development of our shop floor team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline.
  • ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor Certification is required.
  • IATF16949 Lead Auditor Certification is preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing environment with processes certified to ISO9001, ISO17025, IATF16949, GMP, etc.
  • Ability to understand the quality standards relevant to the industry requirements (e.g. ISO 9001:2015 and IATF16949) and the controls necessary to achieve and maintain compliance with the standards as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lab analytical instrumentation and awareness of critical calibrations.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, calculate, establish, and communicate key quality metrics including complaints, complaint frequency, cycle time & audit results.
  • Demonstrated experience and results in auditing, carrying out root cause failure analysis and FMEA’s and identify and drive closure on critical corrective and preventive actions.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in data analysis and its application to improve manufacturing process capability.
  • Experience in process troubleshooting, operational quality SOP knowledge, customer quality change management.
  • Demonstrated experience in use of statistical analysis and associated tools (Minitab, etc.)
  • Familiarity of quality IT systems (LIMS/Sample Manager, SAP, SPC) and tracking. Proficient in SAP to support daily tasks and use of Microsoft programs (Excel, PowerPoint) for data analysis and reporting a plus.
  • Delivers clear and succinct oral and written messages and able to make complex messages clear both internally and to our customer.
  • Demonstrated influential leadership skills as to drive quality improvements. Required competencies: bias for action, integrity, judgement, strong interpersonal and leadership skills, solid time management skills, change agent behavior, and superior communication skills.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher is strongly desired.
