Summary Description:

Under direction, facilitates the teaching-learning process, ensures appropriate educational opportunities for all students with disabilities; develops, maintains, systematically evaluates, and improves special programs that enhance student learning and responds to student and community needs. Facilitates communication between and among agencies working with children and adolescents with disabilities. Physical Demands: Skills in physical restraint; ability to assist staff in positioning and relocating students, as needed. Special Requirements: Occasionally required to attend night and weekend meetings and activities.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of special education policies and procedures which govern the delivery of services to students with disabilities. Thorough knowledge of child and adolescent behavior as it relates to students with moderate, severe, or profound mental disabilities. Working knowledge of MCPS Program of Studies and adaptation for students with disabilities. Ability to plan, organize and implement a school program for students with disabilities. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

Education Training Experience:

Master^s degree from an accredited college or university with course work in special education or related field, administration, supervision and curriculum. Five years^ experience teaching children with disabilities. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Certificate License:Meets Maryland certification requirements for Administrator I and in the assigned discipline. Completion of OAT I or II, or completion within one year of the position start date.
