Job Description
Purpose
This position is responsible for supporting the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to assure that Pharmacy Solutions obtains and maintains all required pharmacy licenses and complies with the licensing requirements of the State of Illinois and with the non-resident pharmacy licensing requirements of the 50 other states where pharmacy services are provided. The position will also support the reporting tasks for compliance with the prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) of each individual state. The position will assure that all licensed employees working for Pharmacy Solutions obtain and maintain their professional licenses and certifications as specified in their job description. Failure to precisely perform the responsibilities of this position could result in non-compliance and disciplinary actions taken against Pharmacy Solutions and/or AbbVie.
Responsibilities
- Must provide guidance to the business to ensure compliance to federal and state laws and regulations, through investigation of applicable laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with SMEs throughout the business to ensure state and federal regulations are identified and cited as “governing documents” in applicable standards, operating procedures and work instructions in every functional area.
- Partner cross functionally within Pharmacy Solutions to help ensure compliance to federal and state laws and regulations in all departments of the business. Report any issues and risks to the Pharmacist-in-Charge and document any actions taken

- Maintain pharmacy licenses, track personnel licenses/certifications and maintain personnel files electronically for compliance and accreditation purposes upon completion of new hires/annually for compliance, along with on-boarding/off-boarding activity. Collaborate cross functionally within Pharmacy Solutions to help ensure compliance to state laws and regulations in all departments of the business.
- Notify every state board of any change of corporate officers or their demographic information for AbbVie Endocrinology, Inc.
- Prepare and document reporting per individual state PDMP requirements
- Prepare all documents required for pharmacy license renewals (Draft license renewal applications, supporting exhibits and attachments, etc.) - Assist with the application, certification, and renewal activities for Pharmacy Solutions’ pharmacy network contracts with commercial and government payers
- Prepare and document quarterly inspections of the pharmacy with the Pharmacist In Charge, assist with state Pick Up Station documentation per states’ regulations, and assist with PTO / break coverage for front desk / reception area as part of maintaining Pharmacy security
- Update relevant Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions so they remain current and reflect any recent changes to pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Lead and/or assist with special projects related to compliance or pharmacy practice.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in physical or life science, pharmacy, or nursing Bachelor’s degree or Associate Degree in health sciences, nursing or pharmacy preferred. Comparable
- or relevant experience will be considered
- Certified Pharmacy Technician or Student Pharmacy Technician (enrolled in College of Pharmacy)
- Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting Pharmaceutical Products (e.g. CFR 210/211, cGMP)
- Specific knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and accreditation standards affecting the practice of pharmacy (federal, state, and local as well as HIPAA. The incumbent must be familiar with State of Illinois Pharmacy Laws and Regulations.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products software including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint software
- Professional communication skills
- Pharmacy experience – 1–2 years
- Quality or Regulatory experience within the healthcare industry – 0-1 year
- Knowledge of Pharmacy laws and regulations – 0-1 year
Key Stakeholders
Reports to the Pharmacist-in-Charge, and interacts with Finance, QA, OEC, IT, Training, Benefit Verification, Customer Experience Call Centers, Humira Patient Assistance Program, Pharmacy Operations, Clinical Operations, Purchasing, and Management.
