IU Bloomington Human Resources (HR) manages day-to-day HR operations and drives the implementation of strategic people initiatives for departments, units and schools across the IU Bloomington campus. As strategic business partners, we provide subject matter leadership and consulting designed to increase workplace productivity and to develop improved processes for attracting, developing and retaining people with the required skills and aptitude to meet current and future business needs. This staff member plays a central role in attracting and retaining top talent in those departments that rely on our shared services and support.

Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Delivers strategic and tactical consulting services related to organizational design and employee compensation for multiple schools, institutes and departments on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University.
  • Partners with senior management to identify and address immediate operational needs and position the enterprise to achieve long-term organizational objectives.
  • Provides high-level guidance to management regarding reorganization, staffing, job planning, compliance, FLSA exemption, and other compensation policies, practices and processes, while partnering with HR Centers of Expertise (COE).
  • Participates on campus budget construction including administering the use of excludable codes to ensure that pay practices are equitable and competitive.
  • Maintains an effective level of business acumen about the business unit¿s financial position, operational plans and culture for optimal engagement.
  • Drives the continuous evaluation and improvement of human resource services.

General Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes and applies in-depth HR body of knowledge and skills to provide strategic guidance for HR related matters like salary administration, hiring, training, policy interpretation, unit restructures, workforce planning, etc.
  • Resolves and provides solutions to the most complex employee relations issues with continued partnership, counsel, and support from COEs.
  • Develops, implements, and drives recruiting strategies to meet current and/or anticipated staffing needs.
  • Coaches and partners with leaders to create actionable plans for improving leadership effectiveness and continuous improvement for employee engagement.
  • Provides strategic HR consulting and problem-solving solutions on complex issues to leaders and managers to ensure alignment and consistency across the University.
  • Provides advice to leadership for development in support of a strong human capital strategy.
  • Collaborates with HR COEs to roll out and support University wide initiatives, ensure client's needs are understood and met, and deliver change management interventions.
  • Partners to create and execute on ensuring an environment of diversity and inclusion.

This position is posted at the Advanced Level but may be filled at the Career Level depending on the candidate's qualifications. Although they will be similar, the duties and responsibilities may differ if filled at the lower rank. Please see the qualifications for each level listed below.

  • Bachelor's degree required (degree in Human Resources preferred)

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 7 years Progressively responsible experience in multiple HR disciplines or related

  • Experience with salary administration, organizational design and employee relations.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

For Advanced Level

$78,000 - $82,000 per year based on education skills and work experience

For the Career Level

$66,000 - $ 72,000 per year based on education skills and work experience.
