Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Compressor Case, Frame, and Kinematics Design Subject Matter Expert who will serve as the primary technical resource to case and kinematics designers across Compression Systems Engineering (CSE). In addition, ability to communicate with team leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics. The position requires broad expertise in the structural design and manufacturing of cast, machined and fabricated major cases frames and kinematics systems. Experience certifying new designs and qualifying new suppliers is required.

What You Will Do

  • Proactively develop mechanical arrangements that result in products and components that are low cost and competitively superior within program schedule milestones.
  • Perform internal design discipline reviews/audits of all case / kinematics designs to ensure design robustness and producibility as well as utilize TPM, QCPC, RCCA and other CORE tools to continuously improve design processes.
  • Team with the CSE Chiefs to manage the product review process and ensure first time design quality. Preside as a reviewer for all major relevant part level design reviews as well as collaborate with internal and external customers.
  • Coach, mentor, and train junior practitioners and support development of Engineering Standard Work, DFMEAs, and Training
  • Lead and/or participate on tiger teams to resolve top technical and manufacturing issues.
  • Benchmark and maintain awareness of emerging trends in mechanical design processes and product technologies to steer mechanical design and compressor technology strategy. Also lead efforts within the Design Technical Discipline Steering team, to develop and manage mechanical design tools, methodology and criteria.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with 10+ years of Design engineering experience with a concentration in Static Structure Design OR
  • Advanced degree with 7+ years of relevant experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
  • 15+ years of design engineering experience
  • Broad knowledge of product design processes and overall engine system integration
  • Proficient in Unigraphics NX, Ansys/NASTRAN, and classical methods of analysis
  • Ability to craft clear communication and develop meaningful relationships.
  • Analytical Skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal, leadership, and teaming skills
  • CORE Champion or Black Belt six-sigma certification

Compression Systems Engineering (CSE)

Compression Systems Engineering is responsible for the design, development, and in service support of all fans low-pressure and high-pressure compressors for commercial and military engine models. CSE is responsible for the identification and maturation of new technologies for these products.

Technical disciplines in CSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, and Product Definition.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
