Position Description: The Homeowner Services Loan Originator supports Atlanta Habitat’s mission by accepting, processing, reviewing, and authenticating mortgage loan applications for homeownership. The Loan Originator will meet one-on-one with applicants to walk through missing documents and communicate deadlines. The Loan Originator, along with the Outreach and Program Services Manager, will make determinations in program readiness and must be able to deliver important program status information such as acceptance or denial.

Key responsibilities:

  • Accept and process all interest forms and applications for home purchase
  • Review and evaluate credit history of all applicants
  • Keep abreast of regulations that relate to mortgage lenders
  • Maintain loan origination certification
  • Answer public inquiries about the home purchase program
  • Ensure Salesforce is updated with all relevant data

Job Conditions:

  • The position is full time at 40 hours per week. Office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekend work required. The position has the ability to flex hours to accommodate these requirements.
  • This position is classified as exempt.
  • Some travel in the Metro Atlanta Area required.
  • The Homeowner Services Loan Originator reports to the Outreach and Program Services Manager and is a member of the Family Services Department.
  • This position is subject to a criminal and credit background check and drug and alcohol testing.
  • The Homeowner Services Loan Originator is expected to use discretion and independent judgment carrying out his/her responsibilities and represent the organization in a professional, knowledgeable, and collegial manner at all times.

Requirements

Education/Professional Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Certified mortgage loan originator in Georgia

Experience

  • Minimum of three years relevant experience in originating and processing loan applications
  • Prior knowledge of a typical home purchasing process is recommended
  • Preferred experience in working with low-income and underserved populations

Skills

  • Experience in financial literacy preferred
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • Able to meet deadlines and pay attention to details
  • Able to communicate tough, but critical determinations in program status
  • Able to interact well with diverse groups, make public presentations and manage multiple tasks
  • Requires excellent computer skills with an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft programs
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local loan processing laws and regulations and the ability to communicate these laws in a non-technical and conversational manner
  • Knowledge of Salesforce preferred. Database management skills required
  • Knowledge of issues related to home ownership, home maintenance, and community advocacy preferred
  • Bilingual skills preferred
