HJF is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to be responsible for installation and repairs that maintain a safe and operational work environment.

This position will be in support of PRS-FAC at Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting/ finding root issue of mechanical/electrical breakdown.
  • Perform repairs with limited or no assistance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Analyzes, and works from blueprints, drawings, or specs.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
  • Clear verbal and written communication ability to work independently or on a team strong attention to detail customer service orientated.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree preferred.
  • Vocational or technical training or degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years' experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding/knowledge of basic mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Ability to use a computer and various programs associated with it. (Google, Word, and Microsoft programs etc.)
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and devices needed to effectively troubleshoot and repair equipment
  • Ability to read and understand electrical/mechanical drawings, blueprints and schematics.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a Building Automation System (BAS) to assist in troubleshooting or repairing HVAC systems
  • Knowledge and ability to identify and use specialty equipment and test instruments to troubleshoot or repair HVAC systems
  • Knowledge and a logical understanding of the sequence of operations of a HVAC system
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools ability to use multimeters, manometers, thermal imagers, etc.
  • Willingness to rotate shifts and respond to on call emergencies, flexible schedule for evenings/weekends as needed.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to climb a ladder, scaffolding enter small spaces, pull, and lift heavy objects 50lbs routinely (and up to 70lbs occasionally).
  • Operating motor vehicles, machinery, and/or power tools.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place in various settings.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $24.09-$38.89. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
