In accordance with Pace Career Services mission to "help every student find a great job and build the foundation of a successful career no matter who they are, who they know or what they are majoring in," the Assistant Director (AD) Dyson Career Programs and Services reports to the Director of Career Services and Employer Relations (NYC) and collaborates closely with Dyson staff and faculty and other Pace University staff as necessary on the development and implementation of an annual strategic plan inclusive of student engagement, internship placement, full-time job placement, and employer development goals for all Dyson students (undergraduate and graduate) and recent alumni. The Assistant Director will collect, interpret, and present data on student engagement and placements for reporting purposes.
Position Duties
- Collaborate with the Dyson deans, faculty, and staff in the strategic development and implementation of goals focusing primarily on student engagement, programming, employer development, internship placement, and full-time job placement.
- Provides career advisement and preparation, and internship/full-time job placement assistance to all Dyson students and recent alumni through counseling, workshops, and programs.
- Perform 1:1 career counseling and preparation including but not limited to resume and cover letter reviews, interview preparation, digital branding, networking, job search strategies, career exploration, and assessment.
- Conceptualize, plan, and implement special workshops, programs, and events for students and recent alumni.
- Collaborate with Career Services staff on career programs, special projects, and strategies to better obtain/collect and report internship and full-time job data and statistics. Is proactive and accountable for continuous follow-up and outreach efforts with both students and employers in order to develop and report internship and full-time job placements.
- Assemble and present reports on the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences metrics (including but not limited to placements in a way that contributes to making informed decisions), work with Director Assessment, Outcomes, and Operations in gleaning and interpreting such data.
- Collaborate closely with student organizations especially in the development of and marketing of Dyson-focused programming. Represent the department at both internal and external events such as admissions events, open houses, information sessions, new student orientations, career fairs, and other special events. Assist with the development and implementation of all Career Services initiatives.
- Market Career Services programs and services to students, recent alumni, faculty, and staff through regular and varied outreach and communications.
- Host office hours for students and recent alumni.
- Attend and contribute to team, department, and assigned committee meetings as scheduled.
- Participate in data collection campaigns and special projects as determined by Career Services management.
- In accordance with the service standards set forth as part of Pace University’s service standard Initiative, “I MAKE IT HAPPEN,” be accessible, respectful, professional, accountable, and proactive in all interactions with students as measured by existing department surveys.
- Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Supervision Exercised
May be required to directly supervise one or more career counselors.
Position Qualifications
- Superior communication, presentation, writing, problem-solving, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Strong technical skills with knowledge of Windows-based computer applications, internet resources, and web recruiting software.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student body including non-traditional and international students, as well as with internal and external constituencies.
- Knowledge of career development theory and application.
- Commitment to working in a team-based collaborative environment.
- Previous experience working within higher education, recruiting, human services, or business-related field. Prior experience with developing business plans, providing employment assistance or job development preferred.
- Knowledge of career development theory and application.
- Experience working in diversity and inclusion in higher education or employer environment desired.
Work Hours
10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and may alternate depending upon department needs. Also, nights and weekends as assigned for campus events, Career Services programs, Admissions events, data collection campaigns, and special projects as determined by the AVP and/or Director.
