The Hartford is seeking an Agile Product Owner (APO) to support our Small Business Data & Analytics portfolio. This critical role sets the priorities for 1-2 agile teams, represents the voice of the customer, and links execution to the business vision. The APO will support a high-performing data delivery organization focused on maintaining, evolving, and modernizing the Small Business data ecosystem. This role will report to the Agile Product Manager (APM) within the Data & Analytics Value Stream.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead product execution for 1-2 agile teams within the Data & Analytics portfolio.
  • Represent the voice of the customer to the agile teams.
  • Manage the product backlog, breaking down features into stories and prioritizing stories to maximize business value.
  • Partner with the Scrum Master, agile teams, APMs, Tech Leads, and business stakeholders to ensure solutions deliver the business vision.
  • Accountable for the health and readiness of the team backlog.
  • Validate that the solution and functionality meet the product vision.
  • Guide the agile teams in determining sprint goals, linking execution activities to business intent.
  • Ensure the agile teams understand the items in the backlog and their business value.
  • Accept completed stories that meet the “definition of done” and quality expectations.
  • Engage with business and technology stakeholders to identify product opportunities and implications.
  • Answer customer questions about the data and provide training, where applicable.
  • Provide perspective on portfolio/value stream vision and roadmap.
  • Manage data request intake system and prioritize work across stakeholder groups.
  • Drive communication and change management activities for the enhancements being delivered.
  • Monitor and share execution progress, including risks and impediments, to proactively communicate deliverable timeline impacts.
  • Coordinate User Acceptance Testing with data stakeholders.
  • Analyze delivery metrics to identify key trends and opportunities for continuous improvement within the agile teams.
  • Pursue opportunities to mentor Associate APOs.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in a product-related role, data, technology, or related field; experience in the insurance industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and frameworks such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.
  • Experience with data & analytics, business intelligence, data warehouse, or Data Lake delivery projects preferred.
  • Experience with agile lifecycle management tools (e.g., Rally, JIRA).
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams preferred.
  • Strong collaboration and influence skills, including the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand audiences, tailor messages, and influence outcomes.
  • Proficiency in impactful storytelling, communication, and relationship-building across a broad range of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with analyzing data to identify insights and create hypotheses for testing.
  • Familiarity with mentoring junior APOs and contributing to an Agile product management community of practice.
  • Self-motivated individual with demonstrated ability to handle multiple high-priority demands, manage expectations, and achieve objectives.
  • Experience with ADKAR or other change management frameworks preferred.
  • Experience accessing and retrieving data by creating and tuning SQL queries; understanding of data warehousing tools and databases is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of data transformation and data warehouse concepts.
  • Experience in cloud-based platforms is a plus.

Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Scottsdale, AZ, Naperville, IL, New York, NY, and Danbury, CT) will have the expectation of working in an office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$100,000 - $150,000
