Job Description
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The registered pharmacy technician working in the Inpatient* ( Main/Satellite) Pharmacy duties include:
General tasks and responsibilities will include:
Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist:
- Pick and fill medication for automated dispensing cabinet (Omnicell®) according to designated par levels.
- Rotate Omnicell stock and update expiration dates accordingly.
- Fill vaccine orders and ensure that they are delivered to the appropriate units in a timely manner adhering to cold-chain process.
- Fills medications based on patients’ specific labels.
- Regularly checks for expired medications in Omnicell as well as all areas of the Pharmacy
- Maintains stock inventories for main pharmacy and satellites.
- Fill and dispense Crash Cart Medication and Anesthesia trays/ medications according to policy & procedure.
- Delivers TPN and other preparations to the nursing units.
- Attends and/or participates in staff departmental and interdisciplinary meetings, training and quality assurance/performance improvement (QA/PI) activities, as required..
- Performs Unit/Clinic monthly inspections
- Answer telephones and/or in basket messages in EPIC
Other responsibilities:
- Performs pharmacy-related clerical duties
- Be familiar with the Policies and Procedures of the Department.
- Be familiar with the facility Pharmaceutical Waste Disposal System and the different types of waste routinely generated by the pharmacy and follow accordingly.
In addition:
- Registered Pharmacy Technicians, trained in Sterile IV Compounding, (Hazardous and non-hazardous), may assists the Pharmacist, as directed, in compounding ("compounding" means the combining, admixing, mixing, diluting, pooling, reconstituting, or otherwise altering of a drug or bulk drug substance to create a drug), preparing, labeling or dispensing of compounding drugs used to fill valid prescription or medication order for a patient.
Minimum Qualifications
Effective April 25, 2021, all new hires into the title of Pharmacy Technician must be licensed to practice as a Registered Pharmacy Technician by the NYSED.
