GENERAL SUMMARY:

Strategic leader within the Information Technology Services (ITS) department, responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-wide architectural solutions that align with the organization's strategic objectives. Plays a pivotal role in risk management, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives, driving the organization towards technological excellence. Working closely with key stakeholders including executives, business leaders, and technology teams, the Sr. Principal EA defines and executes an enterprise architecture vision that supports business growth, innovation, and operational excellence, and leads the ITS Architectural Review Board (ARB). This is a role that requires an expert understanding of business processes, technology trends, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable and efficient architectural designs and solutions.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides strategic leadership in defining and implementing enterprise-wide architecture standards, principles, and best practices.
  • Develops and communicates the enterprise architecture vision and strategy to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Leads, improves, and tracks performance of the Information Technology Architectural Review Board (ARB) to oversee and govern technology and solution architectures. Defines and maintains the ARB charter, objectives, and processes to ensure effective decision-making and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Fosters a culture of innovation and adaptability to respond to changing Business needs.
  • Conducts peer reviews and assessments of projects and solutions to ensure compliance with architectural principles, standards, guidelines and policies.
  • Collaborates with development teams during the implementation phase, providing guidance and support to ensure successful delivery of enterprise technology solutions. Reviews and evaluates the technical feasibility of proposed solutions and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on all enterprise technologies, provides guidance and mentorship to technical teams. Stays up to date with industry trends, advancements, and best practices related to spatial technologies and shares knowledge within the organization.
  • Identifies and assesses risks associated with architectural decisions and propose mitigation strategies. Collaborates with stakeholders to mitigate risks.
  • Stays informed about emerging technologies and industry trends to proactively address potential risks and opportunities.
  • Ensures the quality of architectural artifacts, such as design documents, models, and diagrams.. Evaluates and provides recommendations for new technology, tools and solutions to determine their alignment with the enterprise architecture strategy.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems (MIS), or a related field.
  • Eight (8) plus years of experience with enterprise architecture standards and governance, cloud computing, microservices architecture, data analytics, APIs, and/or integration technologies.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Skills in the enterprise architecture principles, frameworks, and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies, system architecture principles, and integration patterns.
  • Skills in wide range of technology domains, including cloud computing, database management, security, networking, and application development.
  • Ability to align IT strategies with overall business goals and objectives.
  • Ability to design and implement complex IT solutions involving the integration of enterprise technologies with existing enterprise systems while considering the cross-functional implications.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in enterprise architecture.
  • Ability to serve as a leader; guide and influence technical teams, provide technical mentorship, and drive technology innovation.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to create clear and comprehensive architectural documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (If needed)

  • Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
  • Ability to obtain Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection (CBP) security access clearance within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for CBP security access clearance upon each CBP security access renewal.
  • Must take Cyber awareness training within thirty (30) days from date of employment.
  • Must be fingerprinted and pass a national fingerprint-based background check in order to access Criminal Justice Information within thirty (30) days from date of employment.

DESIRABLE

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Experience managing or participating in an enterprise Architectural Review Board or similar governance structure.
  • Relevant certifications or training such as TOGAF, AWS, Microsoft Azure, or CEA.
