BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SPECIALIST

  • Job Description:
    • Develop, monitor, and update behavior modification programs utilizing principles of ABA and aspects of behavior management within the confines of OPWDD policy
    • Assess functional data and develop Functional Behavior Assessments into Behavior Intervention/Support Plans
    • Provide ongoing training to support Day Habilitation Specialists with implementing behavioral intervention strategies and in carrying out person-centered planning
    • Participate as an active member of Human Rights Committee in presenting behavior programs for approval and reviewing other BIS’s behavior programming and treatment plans
    • Mentor Day Habilitation Specialists and Supervisors using the framework of Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-R), a behavior management training provided to staff at all levels
    • Participate in all program planning meetings and case reviews to discuss treatment plan goals, behavioral strategies and objectives, assessments, and behavioral observations
    • Complete and present reports to team members reflecting behavioral progress
    • Provide therapeutic consultation to people receiving services
    • Collaborate with residential teams and BISs to coordinate optimal behavior programming across settings
    • Provide support to Day Habilitation Specialists in emergency circumstances and on an as-needed basis
    • Attend trainings and seminars to continuously enhance knowledge of intellectual disabilities and other diagnoses, as well as SCO, Home and Community Based Services Waiver (HCBS) and OPWDD policy and procedure
    • Maintain case notes and records in accordance with program requirements
    • Ongoing collaboration with agency-wide behavioral health services
    • Attend monthly BIS meetings and touch points
    • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Behavioral Health Services
    • Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of one year experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities
  • Must possess well developed communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with team members
  • Capacity to maintain high levels of quality of work and productivity
  • Ideal candidate will be flexible with working hours and demonstrate reliability in relation to attendance and punctuality

  • Supervised hours by an LBA will be provided at no charge for candidates working toward their RBT, BCaBA, BCBA or licensure
  • A full week of training will be provided to certify new employees in SCIP-R (the behavior management curriculum utilized) and CPR, in addition to OPWDD Pre-Service training
  • Two days of new hire orientation is provided to acclimate candidates to SCO Family of Services
