This recruitment will be used to fill up to 2 part-time Communication and Design Student Assistants for DFA IT at Oregon State University. DFA IT is looking for students who want to gain experience in the field of communication, enjoy planning and strategizing messages as a team, have an interest in learning new technologies, and have a keen eye for detail.

This internship is designed to give students hands-on experience creating, developing and maintaining communication and design material, including webpages and web-based content, along with maps, posters, brochures, flyers and more. Communication and design student assistants will take part in a variety of tasks needed to effectively connect and share information with internal OSU audiences, such as employees and students. Interns will also have opportunities to provide input on messaging, design and branding ideas.

This position is an essential part of DFA IT, a team dedicated to supporting OSU and DFA functions, programs and processes. DFA IT provides planning, IT solutions and critical information to meet the constantly evolving needs of a growing technology and communication ecosystem. As a trusted partner supporting the Division of Finance and Administration, DFA IT aligns priorities with DFA, University Information and Technology and OSU’s strategic plan to solve tough problems and prioritize and optimize work for the university. Position Duties

To meet the objectives of the DFA IT Web and Communications team, the responsibilities and duties of the communications and design position include, but are not limited to:

Website Updates (45%)

  • Collaborate with the DFA IT Web and Communication team and website stakeholders

to prioritize and address updates and requests.

  • Implement changes to website content, structure, and design based on stakeholder requests and feedback.
  • Use web governance tools, such as Acquia Optimize to identify and evaluate issues (such as accessibility, policy violations, broken links, etc.) on university websites.

Design (25%)

  • Design promotional and marketing graphics and assets for use in different communication mediums.
  • Create and update maps, signs, posters, brochures and flyers related to campus operations

Communications (20%)

  • Gather information, draft, and review communications within DFA IT and externally, including the creation of written and website content designed to help meet user needs.

General Duties (10%)

  • Attend regular meetings, participate in ongoing training and collaborate with peers to accomplish tasks effectively.
  • Contribute to the successful operation of the DFA IT Web and Comms team by performing other duties as assigned.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

  • Coursework or past work experience in graphic design.
  • Past experience with web content management systems such as Wordpress or Drupal.
  • Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Dependability, professionalism, and conscientiousness; consistent follow through on commitments and an ethical approach to tasks and interactions.
