The Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies communications team manages all strategic marketing and communications to support the Office of the Dean, the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, and all School units in promoting events and programming.
Job Summary
The Graphic Designer is a passionate and motivated creative professional, committed to championing the IU brand and advancing the communication and marketing goals and priorities of the IU Hamilton Lugar School.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Completes both basic and complex graphic design projects, performing research, conceptualizing design, setting timelines, and designing visual elements for both print and digital formats, while adhering to IU brand guidelines.
- Uses a variety of graphic design software and programs, including Adobe Creative Suite (primarily InDesign), and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
- Designs the layout and format for digital and print graphic design content, including selection of colors, images, fonts, logos, and placement, for various marketing and communications needs, audiences, and platforms.
- Designs emails in Salesforce Marketing Cloud for the Hamilton Lugar School and various Units within the school.
- Regularly consults with marketing and communications staff and Hamilton Lugar School units to determine project needs and ensure graphic design elements align with strategy and objectives.
- Communicates directly with internal faculty and staff clients to clarify design specifications, share design drafts, providing excellent customer service from project concept to completion.
- Collaborates closely with the entire marketing/communications team to complete design requests as directed by project managers.
- Keeps an archive of completed projects as packaged InDesign files in a shared file system.
- Maintains and updates design templates for faculty/staff usage.
- Assists with additional communications projects as needed.
- Assigns work and manages student design intern, checking in with her on a weekly basis and coordinating her workload.
- Communicates directly with vendors on technical printing requirements and sets up files to ensure correct printing. Requests cost quotes and communicates project costs to clients. Places print orders and helps manage the ordering of swag or other printed materials.
- Stays up-to-date on design best practices in regard to accessibility, providing leadership and guidance to the department in this area.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 1 year of experience in a graphic design role
SKILLS
Required
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite primarily InDesign.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with a wide variety of individuals.
