Purpose

To coach UT Austin pre-health professions students regarding academic pre-requisites and non-academic components in their preparation for application to professional school. Supervise the Peer Coach Team, lead event coordination for the office, and develop and manage social media. To advance our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advising individually and in groups to pre-health professions students as they progress toward and complete application to professional schools. Develop, select, and utilize effective pre-Health Professions information and materials for students pursuing a health professions career.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise Health Professions Peer Mentors and provide feedback, evaluation and ongoing training in providing information to pre-health professions students.
  • Coordinate the HP Fair annually each spring. Work with professional schools and all vendors involved with the fair. Facilitate Joe Thorne Gilbert Lecture Series event process and co-plan with admin associate. Coordinate additional events as needed.
  • Manage the Health Professions Office Newsletter, Instagram, and other social media/marketing projects
  • Plan and coordinate workshops and seminars for students. Teach and present to groups (internal groups and external groups visiting UT) ranging in size from 25 to over 500.
  • Represent health professions programs and services in on-campus and off-campus organizations, meetings and conferences. Work closely in a team environment with the other advisors (Career and Health Professions) and administrative staff.
  • Stay current on admissions requirements across these disciplines: Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary, Pharmacy, Optometry, Physician Assistant, Podiatry, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Anesthesiology Assistant, Cardiovascular Perfusionist, and Orthotist & Prosthetist through outreach to in-state and out-of-state professional schools.
  • Other duties as assigned, including supporting special projects and staffing events within CNS.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree and four years of experience in academic advising, career services, or pre-health professions advising. Demonstrated project management abilities, interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and excellence in oral and written communication. Experience developing and managing social media content. Experience planning large-scale events. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Capable of researching and developing content, interactive exercises, and applying effective teaching methods for topics in professionalism and health professions for credit-bearing courses. Must be able to occasionally travel, including overnight travel. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher and more experience than above. Experience as a health professions advisor in a university environment. Experience working with health professional and graduate schools. 

Salary Range

$54,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid work schedule 8-5 availability- M-W in-person, Th-F remote. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Environmental Demands: may work around standard office conditions
  • Physical Tasks: Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Designated workstation/office area in the home Th-F during remote.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
