Your impact

Jacobs is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Design Manager – Baggage Program to support a large-scale aviation program in Toronto. This key role is responsible for managing the successful execution of multi-disciplinary design elements within the terminal baggage program, ensuring integration with broader terminal renovations and stakeholder requirements. Working in collaboration with the client contractors, consultants, and stakeholder groups, you will lead the design delivery process across all phases—ensuring technical excellence, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with program goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the application of multi-disciplinary design standards, working collaboratively with the main contractor and project teams.
  • Oversee pre-construction services including planning, design phases, site development, permitting coordination, and procurement support.
  • Serve as the primary design interface with the client across multiple levels, providing subject matter expertise and design leadership throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Manage and administer design consultancy contracts to ensure compliance with technical specifications, delivery schedules, and cost targets.
  • Facilitate internal and external design reviews, synthesizing feedback from all project stakeholders to drive timely and effective decision-making.
  • Coordinate with external authorities and stakeholder groups including airlines, regulatory agencies, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Provide regular performance reporting to management and executive teams, highlighting design risks, progress metrics, and emerging opportunities.
  • Support seamless handover between the development and construction phases, ensuring full design intent is preserved through execution.
  • Offer ongoing technical support to delivery teams during construction, ensuring continuity from planning and design through to implementation.
  • Lead quality assurance reviews to validate alignment with program scope, client standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring support to client project staff, contributing to capacity building and technical development.

Here's what you'll need

  • Typically, a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in large capital programs in an engineering / design management position with a focus on terminal renovation / improvement programs.
  • Specific experience in Design Management of Baggage Systems is required including SSBDs, Screening Equipment, In-Carrier Systems, Reclaim devices, baggage induction and makeup.
  • Demonstrable experience using AutoCAD & Revit (MicroStation is an asset) /BIM/Civil 3D design software & Experience in Microsoft Office software.
  • Demonstrable experience in performing design reviews and facilitating design coordination activities.
  • Good working knowledge of program development including scope finalization, cost estimating, scheduling, and risk assessments.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills including the ability to facilitate meeting / workshops with large groups of stakeholders.
  • Strong technical capability in all project phases and ability to solve complex problems including by using data analytics to support solution identification.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing strategic level reporting to enable effective decision making.
  • Recognized degree in engineering or architecture.
  • Relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
