Job Title: Special Recreation Program & Event Coordinator (Specialized Programs)
Characteristics of the Class: Coordinate and facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of Therapeutic Recreation programs and special events. Performs related duties as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Plans and implements citywide Therapeutic Recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities (Deaf & HOH, Adaptive and Veterans).
- Meet with key individuals from partner organizations to define tasks and timelines, gather and disseminate information and execute projects, programs and events.
- Prepares reports and promotional materials for programs and events.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Training and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Education or related field plus three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
- Work experience with individuals with disabilities specific to Adaptive or Paralympic Sports preferred.
- One year of supervisory experience preferred.
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of athletic, leisure and recreational principles and theories as they apply to therapeutic recreation.
- Knowledge of teaching methods and techniques used to instructor individuals with disabilities. Ability to understand and implement elements of community-based programming.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks. High level of organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to evaluate programs based on value to program participants and industry standards. Evidence of customer service focus practices.
