Technology Curriculum Specialist @ Instruction Department

Primary Purpose:

Provide development and support of district wide technology programs including; Distance Learning, Integration of Technology Applications TEKS, classroom utilization and creation of digital content, and Responsible Use Best Practices.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Masters’ Degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate and ESL or bilingual certification
  • Valid Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to interpret and analyze data to make sound educational decisions
  • Ability to organize and lead curriculum development and distance learning projects and teams
  • Able to communicate effectively in face to face and online environments
  • Instructional confidence, creativity and innovation preferred
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong technology proficiencies with communication and presentation skills

Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years of specialist/instructional coaching experience
  • Minimum three (3) years’ classroom teaching experience required
  • Distance learning experience preferred
  • Online teaching certification preferred
  • Curriculum writing/design experience preferred
  • Varied grade level experience preferred
  • Instructional leadership skills and experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop, lead, and support district-wide distance learning partnerships, systems, processes, and opportunities.
  • Support and update policies and procedures for district and campus operations for blended and distance learning programming.
  • Promote/market distance learning programming and support student recruitment.
  • Design, facilitate and implement innovative solutions that impact the integration of technology applications standards, resources and systems into the curriculum at campus and district level.
  • Lead development of digital and blended learning curriculum and course materials.
  • Model blended and technology integration pedagogy/andragogy to support future-ready teaching and learning.
  • Provide support for learning management systems and digital resources, including training, development of teacher and student accounts, account maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Analyze data and provide student reports on distance learning and credit recovery programs.
  • Request, track, and manage funding and resources for distance learning, blended learning, and technology applications programming.
  • Collaboratively provide, maintain, and support virtual dual-credit opportunities.
  • Provide support for campus digital learning and library programs.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Manage and support the design of online training sessions in both synchronous and asynchronous environments.
  • Design and help others design technology professional learning opportunities with a focus on pedagogical and andragogical best practices.

Other

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Performance in this role is evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Non-Supervisor Personnel.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
