Job Description:

The Platform ILOM team of Oracle Hardware Development (OHD) is looking for a self-motivated, talented Embedded Software developer to bring exceptional technical skills to join a growing, distributed, multifunctional team developing and maintaining OHD’s latest embedded Linux software for new and exciting AMD, Ampere, Intel, and GPU based server products and components. The Platform ILOM team is at the forefront of prototyping and bringing new and exciting hardware technologies, processors, firmware, and system software to market in a fast-moving, cutting-edge environment. The team works across OHD and also directly with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to deliver reliable, dynamic, and efficient system configuration and management for Oracle’s leading-edge servers.

As part of the Platform ILOM team, you will be involved in early design discussions, prototype development all the way through implementation and delivery of the platform. You will collaborate with several architects, domain experts, and highly experienced engineers. Post delivery, you will participate in enhancing the functionality, operational improvements as well as day-to-day support of this platform

We’re looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion for solving difficult problems in distributed systems and highly available services. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will own the software design and development for important components of this platform. You should be both a rock solid coder and be familiar with distributed systems, able to dive deep into any part of the stack as well as design broad distributed system interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize standard software development methodology which includes scoping, architecture, specification, development, source control, code review, and unit-level testing of features/sub-systems of ILOM.
  • Work closely with fellow, geographically distributed teammates and cross-functional teams toward the execution of agreed project milestones and delivery dates.
  • Communicate status, and risks, and offer mitigation strategies to ensure on-time delivery of all committed items.
  • Support operational escalations in a Cloud DevOps environment.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • Proficiency with C, Bash, and Python.
  • Experience with AMD, Ampere, and/or Intel architectures
  • Demonstrated experience developing multi-process, multi-threaded applications, including daemons, in C for an embedded Linux environment
  • Demonstrated experience developing Linux kernel drivers and/or applications in C for interfaces like SPI, I2C/I3C, SMbus, PMbus, USB, UART, and/or Ethernet controllers.
  • Experience working directly with the Hardware team and board bring-up
  • Experience with TCP/IP and socket programming is a plus.
  • Experience using protocols/APIs like MCTP, PLDM, and Redfish is a plus
  • Direct experience developing Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) functionality for system and CPU error handling in C is a plus
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, and BitBucket is a plus
  • Ability to drive change skillfully, gaining adoption from all stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Ability to leverage others' expertise and share information and best practices to optimize work results.
  • Ability to influence others to change their perceptions in a positive, creative, and respectful way

  • Ability to develop functional designs according to provided software requirements to implement moderately complex features with or across products
  • Ability to develop technical designs and unit tests for fixes of moderate complexity, prototype for features of any complexity, and contribute to the development of cross-product technical designs and moderately complex changes to existing software architecture designs

Education and Work Experience:

  • BSEE, BSCS, BSCE, or equivalent. MSEE, MSCS, or MSCE is a plus
  • 6+ years experience as an embedded software developer

US: Hiring Range: from $74,800 to $178,200 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
