This position requires the expertise of a current or former first responder (police, fire, emergency medical services) professional to support the Center for Behavioral Emergency and Addiction Research (CBEAR) and the Houston Emergency Opioid Engagement System. This position will develop and implement peer support and counseling programming for first responders, including a peer referral program for first responders across Texas, as well as developing unique continuing education programs. The Heroes Helpline is a 24/7 telephonic support line available to any Texas first responder experiencing mental health or substance use concerns. Educational efforts include developing curriculum to improve first responders understanding of mental health and substance use, and delivering the curriculum to the target population via in-person training sessions and self-paced online modules.

Certification/Skills:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or health related field.
Minimum Experience:
Three years of experience working with community agencies and health related institutions. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive:

Residency Requirement:
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
