Scientific Advisor - Genomic & Computational Technologies

Broad Institute

Job Description

The Broad Institute is an amazing place - we apply our deep knowledge of human genetics to empower a revolution in biomedicine and accelerate the pace at which the world conquers disease. Through our partnerships with MIT, Harvard, and the Harvard teaching hospitals, we've become a worldwide hub of cutting-edge biomedical science.

We are looking for an exceptional, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join a dynamic research team as a Scientific Advisor to Dr. Kasper Lage. The Lage lab is situated at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and research focuses on the development and application of computational technologies to functionally interpret massive genomic datasets using biological networks. The Scientific Advisor will assist Dr. Lage in the writing of grants and scientific manuscripts as well as provide general assistance in day-to-day mentoring and oversight of research activities.

In this position, you will:

Communicate the science. You are a natural editor who reads journals with an eye toward the significance of the work, and gets annoyed when the science is conveyed poorly - it can keep you up at night! You are also a scientist who thrives in an intellectually stimulating environment. You enjoy utilizing your scientific knowledge and strong communication skills to shape scientific content. You are also interested in engaging with a growing community of writers at the Broad Institute to diversify your skill set in this space.

Contribute intellectually. You look forward to attending scientific conferences and lab meetings, and digesting scientific literature in order to keep current on a wide range of genetic

and computational biology research. You enjoy engaging in discussions with accomplished scientists, and you're confident and forthright with your own ideas -- but also OK with working in the background and deferring to others.

Get things done. You have superb time management skills and are used to things flying at you from all directions. You have a knack for knowing how and what to prioritize and how to translate this knowledge into budgetary decisions for the group.

  • You have a PhD in a biomedical or computational field, and a broad set of skills in project management, scientific writing, and editing.
  • You love working with diverse teams in a fast-paced environment, and have a desire to contribute scientifically to breakthrough computational technology research.
  • Candidate should have outstanding academic and/or professional track record including strong publication record in high-impact journals.
  • Successful candidate will have a demonstrated strength in building excellent working relationships, initiating new collaborations and be enthusiastic about taking a hands-on approach to collaborative scientific discovery efforts.
