Course Description:

Lead the Academic Reading to Write component of the Express Pathway Integration Course (EPIC), supporting international students from China in their transition to undergraduate studies at the University of Ottawa. This course emphasizes the development of academic reading strategies, critical thinking, and written communication skills necessary for success in university coursework. The instructor will help students engage with authentic academic texts, build advanced vocabulary and grammar skills, and produce well-structured academic writing through tasks such as paraphrasing, summarizing, and argument development. The instructor is also responsible for preparing and assessing written assignments, integrating digital learning tools, and supervising a teaching assistant. Instruction is aligned with the overall goals of EPIC to ensure students develop the linguistic confidence and academic readiness required for entry into undergraduate studies.

Pre-Arrival Synchronous Online Course

Dates: August 4 – August 27

Days: Mondays & Wednesdays

Time: 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM (Beijing Time) / 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM (Ottawa Time)

Format: Live sessions via Zoom/MS Teams with instructor-led academic skills training.

In-Person Course

Dates: September 8 – December 12, 2025

Days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday

Master's degree in second language teaching, TESL or related discipline. Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level. Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course. Experience with team-teaching. TESL Certification or equivalent.
