Job Purpose:

Casting Engineer in China Materials Technology to provide technical support to product team, purchasing/suppliers, facilities on product design and continuous process/quality improvement

Job Duties:

1. Perform casting process optimize, material validation, trouble shooting, development and improvement in CAT facilities and suppliers.

2. Perform the failure analysis, stress analysis and destructive testing of casting parts.

3. Support design engineers on casting parts optimization.

4. Support/Follow up the related NPI/CPI projects.

5. Develop innovation Tech to improve casting process or relative work.

6. Other assigned job from supervisor.

The job duties will include, but not limit to:

  • Caterpillar casting materials and processes specification interpreting, applying and trainings to internal engineers and suppliers
  • Caterpillar casting drawings and specifications converting into validation procedures, to guide CMT metallurgical laboratory performing proper testing
  • Materials and processes related PPAP documents review, trouble shooting and other casting technical supporting to assist global purchasing teams on supplier development
  • Lab paper review and disposition, help supplier to understand the nonconformance root causes with specification requirements, casting materials and processes knowledge and know-how, provide the solution to suppliers with proper casting process control or improvement
  • Communicating and Learning from Caterpillar global casting engineering team, accumulate the experiences for required working skills
  • Casting foundry knowledge training to internal and external engineers
  • Summarize trip reports, lab papers information for statistical foundry information analysis, report the foundries improvement and achievements
  • Championing new initiatives, collaborating with team members and other teams, and keeping abreast of advancing technology
  • Casting materials and process consulting to internal team such as design engineers, purchasing engineers
  • Develop innovation Tech to improve casting process or relative work. Study extra knowledge to support Lab or facility on working improvement and upgrade.
  • This position will require more than 20% traveling time after all required working skills were mastered, all necessary.
  • Casting process engineer will have opportunities to get working rotation around Caterpillar facilities to get necessary knowledge too if he/she shows high potential in 6 months probation.
  • Engineer will work with other CMT casting engineers as a team to achieve better learning and working effectiveness
  • Individuals may have multiple assignments during their tenure as Engineer. Assignments may require the Engineer to review the work of technicians or other support personnel, provide technical advice to individuals at various levels in the organization and work with another unit or team. Assignments will become more complex and require the Engineer to assume a significant role, either as an individual contributor or as part of a project team, with increasing emphasis on analyzing, identifying, and applying engineering techniques to solve problems and make recommendations.
  • Decisions may affect the work group or project team, suppliers, multiple units, and both internal and external customers, and these decisions have significant impact on warranty, total cost of non-quality, customer perception, costs, sales, and the leveraging of technology
  • Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all of the following: perform needs analysis and initiate ideas; evaluate new products, processes, or systems; communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units; contribute to the design of new products and processes; perform product and process maintenance; collaborate with and support other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers and suppliers, maintain technical currency, and represent the company externally.
  • Engineers must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of technology. Key learning should be rounded out during this tenure, including knowledge of Caterpillar and competitive product performance and application, understanding of customers’ needs, working knowledge of key processes, data analysis, and data extraction skills. Project management skills are being honed at this level.

Background / Experience:

1. Bachelor or above degree on casting engineering.

2. At least 5+ years related job experience.

3. Good knowledge & experience in casting process.

4. Be familiar with the related casting specification. E.g. GB, ASTM, ISO and so on.

5. Be familiar with casting simulation software and use to solve problem.

6. Process & logical thinking; proficient in English using; good at communication and coordination skills.

7. Good office software capability.

8. Must have ability to communicate effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as customers and suppliers.

9. Be able to travel in and outside China (about 20% of work time)
