Position Summary:

The Senior Data Security Architect is a strategic and technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust data protection architectures across the organization. This role ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive data across on-premises and cloud environments. The architect collaborates with cross-functional teams—including IT, security operations, risk management, compliance, and application development—to define data security requirements and integrate controls into enterprise systems and workflows.

Organizational Relationships:

This role works with the Information Technology team and the business to support secure information process and technology.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Implements data security systems by specifying data theft/data exfiltration methodologies and exploits; directing system and software installation and tuning; preparing preventive and reactive measures; providing technical support; completing documentation.
  • Develop and maintain data classification, labeling, and protection policies across structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Architect and oversee deployment of data loss prevention (DLP), encryption (at-rest and in-transit), and tokenization technologies.
  • Partner with other areas of Technology to develop comprehensive data security solutions. Collaborates with other AutoNation architects and develops partnerships with senior clients to understand business needs and define future applications’ data security requirements.
  • Evaluate and recommend data security technologies and tools, including CASBs, database activity monitoring (DAM), and cloud-native security solutions.
  • Conduct threat modeling, risk assessments, and data flow mapping for sensitive systems and applications.
  • Support incident response by advising on containment, forensics, and remediation of data-related breaches.
  • Lead compliance efforts related to data security controls for regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, SOX, and CCPA.

Experience:

  • 8–12+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with 4+ years focused specifically on data security architecture or engineering.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-level data protection solutions in hybrid cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Strong background in securing data across cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Assisting in the identification, response, investigation, and remediation of potential breaches of and issues surrounding data security
  • Providing support during off hours in an on-call rotation
  • Supporting programs for compliance monitoring, and security compliance; maintaining information security devices and software; monitoring compliance procedures; and resolving security policy issues

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).3-5 year’s relevant experience in Information Security in medium to large organizations
  • Azure/AWS security experience
  • One or more security certifications such as CFCE, CCE, CSFA, CISSP, CISA, SANS GIAC, or relevant security certification(s) required. Additional technology certifications such as MCSE, CCNA/CCNP, PMP, etc. preferred
  • Expertise in data classification, encryption, tokenization, key management, and DLP technologies.
  • Proficient with security tools such as Microsoft Purview, Symantec DLP, Varonis, Thales, or BigID.
  • Strong understanding of database security (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB) and SaaS data protection.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation, project management (from conception to completion) and planning skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills—capable of translating complex technical topics into business language.
  • Ability to lead initiatives, influence senior leadership, and mentor junior staff.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended working hours may be required as dictated by management and business needs
  • Ability to travel (25%) to multiple facilities as business needs dictate
  • May be required to lift, push, or pull materials weighing up to twenty (20) pounds
  • May be required to sit and review information on a computer screen for long periods of time
  • May require repetitive motions of the hands and wrist related to writing and typing at an electronic keyboard
