Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of Designers, Researchers, Engineers, Content Strategists and Product Managers throughout the design process.
  • Experience in prototyping using tools like Figma, ProtoPie, or similar.
  • Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • Experience in collaborating with User Research to design usability studies for prototypes.
  • Experience with prototyping using advanced tools like web-based technologies or Unity.
  • Ability to understand different perspectives, articulate positions, and advocate for user needs a long with excellent communication skills across different functions.
  • Ability to take design concepts from inception to launch.

In an Interaction Designer role, you will manage complex tasks and transform them into intuitive, accessible and easy-to-use designs for billions of people around the world—from the first-time user to the sophisticated expert. Achieving this goal requires collaboration with teams of Designers, Researchers, Engineers and Product Managers throughout the design process—from creating user flows and wireframes to building user interface mockups and prototypes. At each stage, you will anticipate what our users need, advocate for them and ensure that the final product surprises and delights them.

As a Staff Designer on the Hardware team, you will apply the UX design skills and leadership to help define every aspect of an emerging device category, shaping the future.

You will work with UX Engineers, Interaction Designers, Visual designers, UX Researchers, Product leads and Hardware teams to bring spatial experiences to life, shaping how users interact with this technology, and laying the foundation for the future.The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $178,000-$265,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop and contribute to Augmented Reality System UI architecture, interaction models, and UI framework in collaboration with the rest of the UX team and cross functional partners.
  • Own and deliver design work and collaborate with UX Engineers as part of a prototyping-driven design and discovery process.
  • Partner with cross-functional and cross-product teams to define the product outlook, contribute to product strategy, and execute on the aligned direction.
  • Solve ambiguous and complex design problems involving both screen-space and spatial design.
  • Collaborate with User Research to plan user studies, be an advocate for the user by identifying problems.
