Lead Data Analyst

The Lead Data Analyst position will be responsible for the management, design, testing and implementation of Data Warehouse projects for Policy, Claims, Quotes, Billing, Agency, ancillary components and Data Mart insurance application data.

Primary duties will include requirements review, estimating, analysis, data modeling, development of technical specification documents, development team support and guidance, significant quality assurance, implementation tracking, downstream application support and monitoring of data in production databases.

This role also requires the ability to internally manage the project from Analysis through Post-Implementation phases. Additionally, the ability to manage & direct tasks for self and other Data Analysts within the Data Warehouse team as well as resources outside the team as applicable. This role requires an experienced resource that is knowledgeable with data and possesses the ability to significantly contribute to work in all areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Internal management of projects throughout the project life cycle.
  • Analysis and clarification of Business Requirements
  • Develop system specifications, including data transformations, using Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies and templates.
  • Unit testing and involvement in integration, user and performance testing as well as support of downstream IT and business applications utilizing the Data Warehouse data.
  • Data Modeling
  • Directing/Partnering with Application Development as well as ETL Engineers
  • Ability to establish relationships with key Data Warehouse business and IT users
  • Supporting users and members of the Data Warehouse team with direction and mentoring
  • Performance tuning
  • Working independently on both assigned tasks as well as have the initiatives to identify and complete needed tasks without being specifically assigned.
  • Proactive approach to all work and the initiative to jump in to assist wherever needed
  • Ability to prioritize with little assistance.
  • Strong Problem Solving skills
  • Ability to learn new data sources and patterns quickly
  • Ability to lead and work in all areas within the team; often simultaneously

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience), with 10+ years of software development experience (ideally SQL)
  • 10+ years of Data Analyst Experience
  • Experience in relational databases; ideally DB2 and Snowflake
  • Experience in data mapping and transformations
  • Experience using a software development life cycle (SDLC) methodology, including project planning and estimating.
  • Experience using Jira
  • SQL Skills Required
  • Python skills optional but nice to have
  • Effective oral & written communication skills – must have the ability to be heard
  • Data modeling skills

  • Leadership Skills – Must possess confidence in directing others and making decisions
  • Ability to multi-task both on multiple personal tasks as well as directing others

Other highly valued skills would include:

  • Knowledge of the Property and Casualty Insurance industry is a must
  • Knowledge of the full life cycle of a Policy and Claim within the P&C world
  • Knowledge of Data Warehousing Methodologies
  • Knowledge of Informatica or similar ETL tools to assist with researching the code
  • Knowledge of AWS & Snowflake
