Description of Work

The Biological Process Development Facility (BPDF) is looking for a fermentation team member to join our process development and production group. This position will participate in fermentation process scale-up and optimization to foster the development of therapeutic proteins and other biologics for use in Phase I/II clinical trials. This position is expected to apply technical and functional knowledge to assist in experiment/project execution that will enable the fermentation team to meet its goals.

Job Duties include:

  • Perform all tasks required to prepare for and run fermentations.
  • Prepare and sterilize media and solutions, aseptically inoculate microbial cultures and assess growth and purity of cultures.
  • Monitor and make adjustments to fermentation parameters.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Assist with harvesting cultures, implementing process and equipment improvements, and trouble-shooting equipment and process issues.
  • Assist in the development and performance of key validation studies such as cleaning, sampling and equipment performance.

The person hired for this position must be available to work flexible hours as required.

Candidates for this position must be a US Citizen, Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee in order to work on projects subject to Export Control regulations.

The BPDF provides biopharmaceutical process development and biomanufacturing services that transition discoveries into early phase clinical trials. The BPDF produces a wide range of biologics- including vaccines, recombinant proteins gene therapies and other biotherapeutics – in partnership with government agencies, biotechnology companies, academic researchers, and non-profit organizations.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience in a science related field plus one (1) year experience working in a laboratory. Education may substitute for experience. Proficient in use of basic laboratory equipment. The position requires a person proficient in operating basic laboratory equipment properly; who can operate computer software skillfully; has excellent verbal and written communication skills and is able to follow verbal and written directions correctly.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have 2 years of experience working in microbial production of proteins. Hands-on lab experience running fermenters and developing fermentation processes. Experience working under GMP or similar guidelines. It is preferred that this individual has experience with fermentation and protein purification and knowledge of cGMP/cGLP’s for proper record keeping and project performance.
