Scope of Job
The School of Art and Design at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is hiring a One Year Lecturers to start Fall 2025 to teach in its Bachelor’s/Master of Fine Arts (B.A./BFA/MFA) program in both campuses (Brownsville & Edinburg). Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction in the program, advising students, and participating in scholarship activities serving the college, university, or local community as needed.

Teaching assignments may include History of Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design, Typography, Graphic Design Applications and Digital Imaging. Candidates will be expected to have teaching experience and expertise in at minimum visual communication/graphic design practices. UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley, including but not exclusive to UTRGV campuses in Brownsville and Edinburg.
Minimum Qualifications
The qualifications to be considered for a one-year appointment in Visual Communication Design/Graphic Design is a Master of Fine Arts degree with 18 graduate credits in the specific subject area from an accredited institution.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
One-year lecturers hired to teach Art Appreciation will be required to attend a training workshop in August (one day) on the use of D2L Brightspace and common online text. Inability to attend training may result in the cancellation of assignment.
Preferred Qualification
Teaching experience is desirable, as well as the ability to use technology to support teaching and learning.
Salary One-Year Lecturers are paid a 9-month academic rate commensurate with experience and/or qualification in the discipline. All positions are subject to budget approval.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
