The Director – Data Visualizations & Insights leads the design, development, and governance of enterprise dashboards and reporting products used by district leadership, campuses, and operational teams. This role oversees a team of senior engineers and engineers responsible for transforming complex datasets into actionable visual insights using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics and Power BI. The Director ensures that reports and dashboards are accurate, intuitive, and aligned to key strategic goals—spanning student achievement, attendance, finance, HR, procurement, and more.
1. Lead strategy and execution for all district dashboards and enterprise reports.
2. Supervise a team of engineers and analysts developing Power BI solutions across departments.
3. Partner with academic, operational, and executive leaders to define reporting priorities and KPIs.
4. Implement design standards, refresh schedules, and version control for all visual products.
5 Ensure high-quality, FERPA-compliant visualizations that meet user needs and support decision-making.
6. Collaborate with data governance and architecture teams to define source-of-truth datasets.
7. Manage dashboard lifecycle processes including intake, testing, publishing, and retirement.
8. Promote self-service BI adoption through shared datasets and training.
9. Monitor performance, user adoption, and feedback to drive continuous improvement.
10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in information systems, analytics, or related field required. Master’s preferred.
Minimum of 6 years in business intelligence or data analytics. At least 2 years managing reporting teams or large-scale dashboarding initiatives. K–12 or public sector experience preferred.
Leads engineers and analysts responsible for report development and delivery. Guides prioritization and ensures quality across the portfolio.
Makes strategic and technical decisions around how data is presented and consumed. Balances stakeholder needs and performance constraints.
May manage licenses, training resources, and contracts related to BI tools and services.
Resolves issues related to data trust, visual consistency, and user satisfaction. Identifies opportunities to streamline or consolidate reporting assets.
Directly affects how HISD leaders understand and act upon student, operational, and financial data. Poor design may reduce trust in data systems.
Frequent engagement with senior leadership, campus staff, and technical colleagues. Communicates complex data in accessible, meaningful ways.
Serves as a key partner to internal stakeholders seeking reliable, user-friendly visual tools for decision-making.
Office setting. May require extended hours during peak reporting or dashboard release cycles, hybrid setting available.
