DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: Environmental Services (EVS) is responsible for maintain a clean and safe environment throughout both hospitals. EVS cleans and disinfects all surfaces. We provide cleaning standards that support a safe environment for patients, families, visitors, and caregivers.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Manager Environmental Services manages the provision of housekeeping and linen services. Directs, organizes, and plans the use of resources (human, equipment, supplies) and processes (methods, policies, and procedures). Insures the hospital environments are sanitary, attractive, safe and orderly. This position directly manages supervisors, coordinators and caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and supervise functions and activities of the Environmental Services Departments to maintain the hospital environment in a sanitary, attractive, and orderly condition.

Coordinate services to maintain the cleanliness, comfort, and safety of the interior of The Bend service areas.

Perform Quality Assurance checks daily.

Observe areas that need cleaning and schedule cleaning to be done.

Respond to all requests from customers in a timely and courteous manner.

Provide A/V support as needed.

Assist with entering new ESD caregivers into the Bed Tracking system.

Direct and oversee recruitment, hiring, and orientation activities of new caregivers.

Provide initial and ongoing training, coaching and development of caregivers.

Maintain daily and weekly schedules for the department keeping staffing within budget parameters.

Maintain a high level of patient and customer satisfaction and safety.

Provide reports as needed in follow-up to surveys, inspections, and audits.

Assist with cleaning needs as necessary.

Maintain a thorough knowledge of cleaning processes, regulatory requirements, infection control policies, codes and disaster response process as it applies to the department.

Responsible for budget development, regular monitoring, accountability and meeting all operational targets for all areas within span of control.

Hires, directs, coaches and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high-performance team that meets organizational and department goals.

Monitors and ensure all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements. Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals.

Provides and oversees team’s delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.

Collaborates with teams to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvements, applying Value Improvement Practice concepts and tools.

Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.

Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.

May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma or GED.

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

Required: Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician. (CHEST)

Preferred: N/A

EXPERIENCE

Required: Minimum of 3 years experience in a hospital service department

Preferred: 3 years experience in supervisory capacity.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, carrying 1-10 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle for caregivers that are couriers.

Frequently (50%): Lifting 1-10 pounds, pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds, grasping/squeezing.

Occasionally (25%): Sitting, bending, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying 11-25 pounds,

Use of clear and audible speaking voice and ability to hear normal speech level.

Rarely (10%): Keyboard operation, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching overhead, pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds.

Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool, lifting or carrying 25-50 pounds, whispered speech level, operation of a motor vehicle.
