Job Summary

The Cardiac Procedures Unit Cath Lab is currently seeking a full-time Medical Assistant Intermediate to join its established team. This position is located in the Cardiovascular Center.

Responsibilities*

Schedule outpatient and inpatient procedure visits. Establish and maintain a liaison of direct contact with faculty, fellows, charge nurses, clinical care coordinators and supervisors. Perform telephone triage in-basket messaging and utilize paging system. Contact appropriate manufacturer representatives prior to scheduled procedures according to patient schedule. Monitor forms and supply inventory and place orders as needed. Inform patients of necessary preparations prior to visit or test in accordance with established guidelines. Prepare and fax documents to be scanned into the medical record. Schedule multiple coordinated patient procedures and communicate as needed to team members. Maintain and tabulate clinic data as needed.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1--2 years of recent experience as a Nurse Aide/ICU Tech in a hospital setting.
  • Vocational training in Health Care of College level courses in Health Care.
  • Able to work well in a team setting and have excellent communications skills.
  • Should have strong interpersonal and organizational skills and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent attendance record required.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experienced phone skills.
  • Positive, can-do attitude, great team player.
  • Must be able to multitask and function in a fast-paced area.
  • Understands and demonstrates the core concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC), including Respect and Dignity, Information Sharing, Participation, and Collaboration.

Desired Qualifications*

Certification as an EMT, CNA or MA preferred.

Work Schedule

Hybrid- 40 hours (5 8hr shifts), full-time. Monday through Friday. Days. hours 8a-5p

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
