The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

The Operational Risk Management (ORM) team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective operational risk management programs throughout the company, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes.

The objective of the ORM Governance team is to develop, oversee and strengthen the organization’s ORM framework to ensure that governance structures, policies, and procedures are robust, effective, and align with regulatory requirements and best practices.

ORM Governance is looking for a Senior Manager who will help lead the development, enhancement, and implementation of technology, capabilities, and product strategies within the Global Risk and Compliance organization. This role focuses on driving operational risk transformation by aligning business needs with technological solutions, ensuring scalability, regulatory compliance, and innovation. The Director will collaborate closely with stakeholders across risk, compliance, and IT to deliver effective tools and systems that enhance the risk management framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead collaboration with business and technology teams to define detailed user stories, ensuring functional and non-functional requirements are well-documented
  • Oversee User Acceptance Testing (UAT) planning and execution, guiding teams in the development of test cases, coordinating with end-users, and validating that system enhancements meet business and regulatory requirements
  • Drive the design and definition of risk management solutions by advising on strategic architecture choices and aligning cross functional stakeholders
  • Lead the delivery of risk and compliance technology capabilities that strengthen the operational framework, with a focus on proactive risk identification, monitoring, reporting, and controls effectiveness
  • Shape and execute product strategies that advance operational risk system capabilities, ensuring alignment with broader risk transformation objectives
  • Coordinate and help prioritize a portfolio of technology initiatives that enhance risk data management, workflow automation, and regulatory compliance tools.
  • Support the integration of advanced technologies such as AI, machine learning, and data analytics within operational risk management processes.
  • Ensure risk and compliance technology solutions adhere to regulatory standards and adapt to evolving global requirements.
  • Support the integration of risk management systems across the organization, facilitating comprehensive risk reporting and insights for senior management.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, innovations, and best practices to contribute to continuous improvement in risk and compliance capabilities.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of experience in operational risk management, compliance, or risk technology, with a background in supporting capabilities and product strategy initiatives.
  • Prior experience in designing / architecting / implementing complex risk management solutions
  • Experience in Agile / Kanban methodologies, creating and prioritizing user stories and tasks for multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in performing UAT, writing test-cases for various scenarios, performing product reviews / certifications, etc.
  • Experience in coordinating risk transformation projects, particularly in assisting with the implementation of large-scale technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with developing product and technology roadmaps, with a focus on operational risk, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong understanding of global risk management frameworks and financial industry regulations, including Basel, SOX, and CCAR.
  • Experience working with technological solutions in risk and compliance, including AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and work with senior stakeholders to align technology initiatives with business objectives in risk management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex risk environments and contribute to effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to support teams and present risk management insights to stakeholders.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Technology, or a related field is required.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
